    Civility Policies Surfacing in Schools
    Hoping to create more relaxed conversations among teachers, parents, and students, Mercer Island (Washington) and Issaquah (Washington) school districts recently adopted guidelines for civil communication, which are designed to help people make their positions known courteously. Included: Links to the two school districts' civility policies. Two school districts in Washington are bucking the increasingly common "in-your-face" model of dealing with conflict.     April 6, 2003 Two recent studies at Washington State University explored the impact of investing in up-front instructional design of online courses on the cost of their subsequent development and teaching, and on the quality of the resulting courses. The findings suggest that instructional design pays off in both ways.
