Togo Keep up to Date Join our mailing list Remember you can also teach other subjects When I arrived, the children were reluctant to speak, even in their own language. Most only knew a few phrases in English or none at all. By the time I left they were all babbling, singing and arguing in English and were eager to show off their knowledge to anyone who would listen. Not only did they learn new vocabulary, but most importantly, they gained the confidence to practice their spoken English too. - Kate d’Armada, Teaching Program, South Africa The thought of walking into a new class of children of any age, or even a class of young adults is exhilarating and challenging. How can you hold their attention for a complete conversational English lesson? Well, we give you all the backing we can and we’re always there to help - thousands of our volunteers have been teaching in all our destinations for many years with great success.
Russian English class Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) is chance for volunteers to work in a structured school set up. In most schools you’ll teach conversational English lessons, though in a few cases (especially primary teaching) you may be given your own class. In general, classroom time is about 18 hours a week and the type of teaching varies, even within the same country. In many countries you can teach classes or small groups of children aged between 5 and 18, but mainly 13 to 19 year olds in China. In Mexico or Bolivia you might teach in a university, in Ghana you may work in a deaf school and in Moscow all volunteers teach in adult continuing education. In Thailand, we also have opportunities to work in a boarding school for children with mental health problems.

Global Volunteers, a U.S.-based nonprofit "volunteer vacation" organization, invites altruistic travelers to experience Southern Italy upclose and personal through a two-week service program in the lesser-traveled - but no less fascinating - Puglia region. Volunteers are needed to teach conversational English to students in elementary through high-school classrooms of Ostuni and nearby communities. (Ostuni is located approximately 30 miles inland from the coastal city of Brindisi.) The Italian educational system provides English language training, but students have few opportunities to actually practice their pronunciation skills with native speakers. That's why Puglia educators have invited Global Volunteers teams into their schools.
