ABUJA MIRROR: JULY 26 - AUGUST 1, 2000 MIRROR SPORTS Olympic: NigeriaÂs contingent embarks on training tour By Jibril Tahir Nigerian contingent to the 2000 Olympic events in Sydney, Australia, will start flying out of the country as from next Wednesday, on a training tour, preparatory to the Olympic proper in September. Disclosing this to Mirrorsports , the Director of Sports Development in the Ministry of Sports and Social Development, Dr. Amos Adamu, said that while the other teams apart from football will train at a camp in Adelaide, Australia, the football team, the national Under-23 team and the Super Falcons will camp in Germany. Dr. Adamu, who disclosed that the first batch of the contingent would depart the country on August 2, however, said that the whole contingent could not depart at the same time due to logistic reasons; stressing that arrangements have been concluded by Nigeria and the British Airways to airlift the Nigerian contingent to the two training camps in batches. Though there was no official departure time table for the Olympic teams, the likely team that will first depart the country on training tour is the Adelaide bound team, while the football teams will be the last to leave on August 5. Meanwhile, the technical adviser of the Super Eagle, Bonfrere Johannes, who left the country in search of a training camp for the Olympic team is yet to secure a training camp for the Under-23. | |
