French 101/181 will introduce you to the French language and to the many peoples who speak French throughout the world. At the end of this semester, you should already be able to “get along” somewhat in French. You should be able to read through, with basic understanding, general interest articles in newspapers and magazines, and simply structured poems and stories written in French, understand clearly-articulated native French speech within the limits of your vocabulary, and talk with native French speakers on a variety of practical topics.
