Established over seven decades ago as a not-for-profit organization offering vocational rehabilitation for blind Virginians, VIB is a self-funded division of the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI). Virginia Dept. for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)

Archived Highlights JTE Editor Elected AERA President-Elect
Journal of Teacher Education Editor Marilyn Cochran-Smith, professor of education at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education, has been elected president-elect of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Her term as president commences at the end of AERA’s 2004 annual meeting after a year of service as president-elect. Cochran-Smith will succeed Hilda Borko, an educational psychologist at the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Borko, an expert on teacher cognition and the process of learning to teach, assumes office this year at the conclusion of the 2003 AERA conference, taking place in Chicago April 21 to 25. Cochran-Smith, who also serves on AACTE’s Committee on Publications and the Journal of Teacher Education , currently chairs AERA’s Publications Committee and cochairs the organization’s National Consensus Panel on Teacher Education. She previously served as vice president of AERA’s Division K (Teaching and Teacher Education).

" Prevent Child Abuse Virginia , a statewide, private, nonprofit organization, leads a coalition of community partners across the Commonwealth. We are committed to preventing child abuse and neglect through actions taken as leaders, advocates, educators and collaborators. We work with local, regional and statewide human services agencies, civic and religious organizations, businesses, health care providers and concerned citizens. Prevent Child Abuse Virginia is the Virginia chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. We believe that child abuse and neglect can be prevented by providing support and information to families and children. This support is provided through a variety of services for families from the time before their children are born until the children reach adulthood.
