Previous Issues Walking the Talk: Implementing Violence Prevention Efforts Because schools are in the learning business, they are ideally positioned to teach young people alternatives to violence (Walker, 1995). Of course, schools alone cannot hope to end the cycle of violence in our society. But school-based efforts can provide the cornerstone of comprehensive efforts to reduce violence in the community. Schools offer the most logical and accessible point to reach the students most at risk of violent behavior (Prothrow-Stith, 1994).
