Contains articles and photos of the Wall and a searchable database of the names listed on it. Maintained by veterans of 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment.
http://thewall-usa.com/
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Page is dedicated to honoring those who died in the Vietnam War. Since it first went on line in 1996 it has evolved into something more. It is now also a place of healing for those affected by one of the most divisive wars in our nation's history.
"If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go. Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always. Take what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own. And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind."

107. An Introduction To Vietnam

Vietnam Exploring Vietnam Asia Homepage The World A lthough many westerners still imagine Vietnam through the lens of war, it is in reality a country filled with captivating natural beauty and tranquil village life. Its highlands and rainforest regions, far from being devastated, continue to yield new species and team with exotic wildlife. Its islands and beaches are among the finest in all of Southeast Asia, and its cuisine is very possibly the most delicious you will ever find. Over two decades have passed since Vietnam was officially united, and in that time it has done a remarkable job of healing its wounds. Today, this gracious and graceful country is an outstanding travel destination. S haped like an elongated S , Vietnam stretches the length of the Indochinese Peninsula and covers a surface area of 128,000 square milesmaking it roughly the size of Italy or, in the U.S., New Mexico. China lies to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, and the South China Sea to the east. Topographically, Vietnam is a verdant tapestry of soaring mountains, fertile deltas, primeval forests inhabited by exotic fauna, sinuous rivers, mysterious caves, otherworldly rock formations, and heavenly waterfalls and beaches. Beyond nature, the curious and open-minded visitor will find in Vietnam a feast of culture and history.

With Khe Sanh facing a fullscale siege by the North Vietnamese Army, the In this multimedia retrospective, you can learn about the history of the battle
http://www.pbs.org/battlefieldvietnam/khe/
Khe Sanh was one of the most remote outposts in Vietnam, but by January 1968, even President Lyndon Johnson had taken a personal interest in the base. With Khe Sanh facing a full-scale siege by the North Vietnamese Army, the question was being asked: Should the base be held, or should it be quietly abandoned?
Click to launch retrospective
Along with the President, American military officials decided to try and hold the base. On the morning of January 21, 1968, NVA forces launched the awaited attack, and the siege of Khe Sanh had begun. What was it like to be at Khe Sanh? In this multimedia retrospective, you can learn about the history of the battle, study tactical maps, view archival images, and read the stirring reflections of American soldiers who survived in the siege.

VIETNAM: THE IMPOSSIBLE WAR
Against the celebrated and glorious backdrop of American history, the Vietnam War stands ghastly out of place. The war was an exercise in economic, military, and political futility. The greatest tragedy of the Vietnam War, however, stems from the unnecessary deaths of 58 000 young American boys and the installment of terror, mistrust, and sorrow in those who found a way to survive in an inferno where the laws of man were obsolete. In all, I dedicate this page to the Vietnam veterans who saw more destruction in 365 days than mankind should ever see.

E4/US Army Special Forces, Psyops Specialist (but was assigned in Minh Long as a small arms specialist), C Company, Detachment A-108, 5th Special Forces Group. Loss Date: 06MAR67 Coordinates: 145918N 1084233E Situation: Wounded in the left leg during an ambush, taken prisoner. Status: POW/PFOD/NBR Other Personnel in Incident: 20 man Vietnamese patrol of the 142d CIDG Company, Jacob G. Roth (rescued) 2 unnamed American advisors (killed, bodies recovered.) The two "unnamed" advisors were part of a reactionary force flown to the ambush site by the C Company helicopter. The brave souls were SSg Michael F. Stearns and MSg Thomas Sanchez. I have since learned that Mike Stearns was suppose to be on his way "back to the world" when he was killed. He hitched a ride back to Minh Long from Nha Trang via the C Company Helicopter to pick up his forgotten footlocker. When he arrived back, he learned of the ambush and volunteered to become part of the reactionary force led by his friend, MSg Tom Sanchez. Sadly, his family heard of his loss only after they had heard from him that he was out of harms way and on his way back home. In the "official" internet biographies of Burt there is a mention that returned POW Robert Garwood was asked by the Vietnamese about Burt and whether they were related or not. Colonel Tom McKenney, on my behalf, spoke with Bobby Garwood and sadly, Bobby states that there is no truth to it. Bobby says that he was never asked about, nor did he ever know, Burt Small.

Marble Mountain was one of five mountains located south of Da Nang that stretched from the coast inland or westward. All of these mountains had cave entrances and numerous tunnels. There was a road that ran between Crow's Nest and Marble Mountain, from DaNang through the mountain and about eight miles down to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regimental Headquarters. It then turned right for about five miles and brought you to the Tu Cau bridge. Today these five mountains have Vietnamese folk lord names of: Water, Metal, Wood, Fire and Earth.
