When we Americans first went to war in Vietnam, we knew little of its historical heritage or its people's national aspirations. Years later, after tens of thousands of Americans had served and died there we had still learned little. Now that the war is a quarter of a century behind us, Vietnam still remains a mystery to most of us. Yet Vietnam is a country not a war and one with an impressive history, culture and spirituality that Americans should know about. No matter how old you are or what your background, as an American you have a relationship to the land and people, culture and country of Vietnam. The war we had within that country has married our histories and destinies forever. Today, the beauty and complexity of Vietnam is available as the country has opened itself up for tourism. We now have the opportunity to heal our rift with that country and within ourselves. All members of the Vietnam generation, veterans and non veterans alike are especially welcome on this journey in which we will explore this ancient land as well as sites important to the Vietnam War itself. Younger and older Americans are also encouraged to accompany us in this effort to learn the lessons of our war, discover the richness and beauty of Vietnam, and learn more about ourselves.

Civil Construction was known in ancient India as the existence of large urban civilizations in the countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, vietnam, Laos, Cambodia

Ancient Indian Architecture
This is a granite temple panel - one of many that show the splendor of Indian temple architecture. The Science of Architecture and Civil Construction was known in Ancient India as Sthapatya-Shastra . The word Sthapatya is derived from the root word Sthapana i.e. 'to establish'. The technique of architecture was both a science and an art, hence it is also known as Sthapatya-kala, the word Kala means an art. From very early times the construction of temples, palaces, rest houses and other civil construction was undertaken by professional architects known as Sthapati. Even during the Vedic times, there existed professionals who specialized in the technique of constructing chariots and other heavy instruments of war. These professionals have been referred to in the Rig Veda as Rathakara which literally means 'chariot maker'. The excavations of the ruins at Mohenjodaro and Harrappa (today in Pakistan) proved the existence of a developed Urban civilization in India. The Indus valley civilization is dated around 3000 B.C. Thus since the last 5000 years. India has had an urban civilization. The existence of an urban civilization presumes the existence of well developed techniques of architecture and construction. These techniques would no doubt have had been systematically stated in record books for transmitting them to the later generations as well for being used as reference media for actual construction. Unfortunately, as far as the Indus Valley civilization goes no such records have been preserved either as rock edicts, manuscripts, etc., or in folk tales and legends.

: Factual Information within fiction The two short stories, "The Horse Snake" and "My Cousin," in Huynh Q. Nhuong's book, The Land I Lost, give interesting facts about snakes, more particularly about the python and the horsesnake. A horse snake is a long snake. It is more dangerous than any other snakes. In some areas, people call it a bamboo snake because it is as long as a lull grown bamboo tree. An old horse snake can reach the size of a king python. In some other regions, the horse snake is known as the thunder, or lightning snake because it attacks so fast and with such power that its victim has neither time to escape nor strength to fight it. The horse snake usually eats small games, such as turkeys, monkeys, chickens and ducks. Sometimes, it attacks people and cattle. Unlike the python, the horse snake has an extremely poisonous bite. Because of their bone breaking squeeze and ) their fatal bite, both the python and the horse snake, are the most fearsome creatures of the Vietnamese uplands.

The Shang and Xia are of African Origin By Clyde A. Winters Hi Jeff: Sorry for the delay in replying to your post, but up until today I had lost anyway to communicate with this newsgroup because of Google's takeover of Deja.com. Due to the takeover I had no way to read the latest post to the news group. It is clear from this posting that much of your interpretation of Chinese prehistory, writing and civilization is influenced more by cultural nationalism than, objectivity and the "factual truth" according to Chinese textual material and archaeology. You present three major arguments 1) the Chinese language has not changed and that there is no Chinese texual material supporting an African presence in ancient China, 2) the Xia and Shang writing was like the Jia Gu Wen inscriptions, and 3) the archaeologists of China have not found any Negroid skeletal remains in ancient China. All of these arguments are without foundation and have no support at all from the evidence. First of all the Xia and Shang did not write in fanciful signs like the Jia Gu Wen script. The guwenzi or 'ancient script' of the Shang and Xia was called jiaguwen 'the oracular and divinatory' writing. It was incised on hard material like bone and shells. The writing of these people was a phonetic script. I present a copy of the Oracle bone writing at the following web site:
