Sign Up Now! We have compiled an article from questions many people and students have asked us about the becoming a veterinarian and being a vet. It is always good to see someone research and try to understand the details of a career before diving in. The veterinary profession is a hard yet rewarding one but it is only the ones that have a love for it that truly become fulfilled. Included are books that relate to the veterinary profession if you seriously interested in pursuing it. As always, we appreciate when you use our links to purchase books so that we can continue to offer our free educational database. What type of grades do you need to get into Vet School?    Let me say that it is statistically harder to get into a veterinary medicine college than it is to get into a human medical college because of the limited number of veterinary colleges(only 27 in the United States) compared to medical colleges. Therefore, your grades have to be very competitive.     Now this doesn't mean you have to be a straight A student. Veterinary colleges look at many factors in deciding who is a possible candidate including extra activities, experience in working with animals and more but a solid background in biology, science and math is usually desired. The good news is that the veterinary field has significantly diversified in the past decade so colleges also include individuals not from the "normal" statis quo.

Working with orthopedic oncologists at the Massachusetts General Hospital, veterinarians at Tufts' Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals are gaining new insights into osteosarcoma, the most common bone malignancy in humans, by treating dogs diagnosed with the condition, with the hope of curing this disease in both animals and humans. In fact, Tufts' Harrington Oncology Program is the only comprehensive, advanced animal cancer treatment facility in New England and one of the few in the country. The Marilyn M. Simpson Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only specialized facility of its kind in New England and one of just a few nationwide. It provides young horses, cattle, sheep, goats and llamas with sophisticated medical care.

Students interested in a career in veterinary medicine should begin their preparation by doing well in general science and biology in junior high school. They need to take a strong science, math, and biology program in high school. To be considered for admission to a college of veterinary medicine, a student must first complete undergraduate preveterinary medical coursework, which usually includes three to four years of college study, with specific course requirements. Each college of veterinary medicine establishes its own preveterinary requirements. Typical requirements include basic language and communication skills, social sciences, humanities, mathematics, chemistry, and the biological and physical sciences. Preveterinary Coursework Top
Preveterinary coursework can be completed at many colleges and universities, including those at which the veterinary medical schools are located. Students should check with the veterinary college to which they plan to apply to be sure they take all required courses. They should also be certain that credits from the preveterinary courses they take at the school of their choice are acceptable to the veterinary colleges.

LUTHER COLLEGE Learning Academic Majors and Minors Preveterinary Medicine
Preveterinary Medicine at Luther
Doctors of veterinary medicine are concerned about the health and welfare of people as well as animals. Their main function, however, is to diagnose, treat, and control diseases and injuries among animals. Luther's curriculum prepares students exceptionally well for study at a college of veterinary medicine or graduate school of animal science. Each veterinary college has a specific set of requirements which must be fulfilled prior to acceptance. As a result, students are urged to work closely with the preveterinary adviser in planning their coursework at Luther. The preveterinary program is centered in the sciences, but a student may major in almost any academic discipline as long as preveterinary requirements are satisfied. Establishing a broad base of knowledge better equips a student to handle the complexities of veterinary medicine. All preveterinary students are encouraged to intern at least one January term assisting a veterinarian. Being involved in clinical work offers valuable experience and provides a realistic orientation to veterinary medicine. The program adviser will assist the student in arranging these internships and advise all preveterinary students regarding the Veterinary Aptitude Test, Graduate Record Examination, and Medical College Admission Test which are all frequently required as part of the veterinary college admission process.

var branchActive=3; var branchSelected=3; Company General FAQ Glossary ... Humic matter is formed through the chemical and biological humification of plant and animal matter and through the biological activities of micro-organisms Ill.1 ). The biological center, the main fraction of natural humic matter, are the humic acids, which contain humic acid and fulvic acid . Humic acids are an excellent natural and organic way to provide plants and soil with a concentrated dose of essential nutrients, vitamins and trace elements. They are complex molecules that exist naturally in soils, peats, oceans and fresh waters. The best source of humic acids are the sedimentation layers of soft brown coal, which are referred to as Leonardite. Humic acids are found in high concentration here. Leonardite is organic matter, which has not reached the state of coal and differs from soft brown coal by its high oxidation degree, a result of the process of coal formation (bog>peat>coal), and high humic acids content as well as higher carboxyl groups
C COOH OH CO OCH Inactive Groups Total Brown coal Leonardite
Compared to other organic products, Leonardite is very rich in humic acids. While Leonardite is the end product of a humification process lasting 70 million years, the formation period of peat, for instance, is completed within only a few thousand years. The difference between Leonardite and other sources of humic acids lies in its property that Leonardite is extremely bioactive through its molecular structure. This biological activity is about five times stronger than other humic matter as one kilogram Leonardite corresponds to about 5 kilogram of other organic sources of humic acids. In terms of humic acids content, one liter of Liqhumus (liquid concentrate) is equivalent to 7-8 metric tons of organic manure. Similarly, one kilogram of Powhumus (concentrated powder) is equivalent to about 30 metric tons of manure.
