State Geological Survey Almost all of the 50 states (and Puerto Rico) have an agency that deals with geological hazards and resources within its bounds. Some have more than one (e.g., one for petroleum resources, one for general geology, and one for water resources), and some have delegated the responsibilities to a unit within a state university. Most, but not all of these institutions are connected to the Internet. For all of these agencies, we've included snail mail addresses as well as known e-mail and Internet links.

Vermont Hazing Law
NO. 120. AN ACT RELATING TO THE CRIME OF HAZING. (S.76) It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont: Sec. 1. STATEMENT OF POLICY The general assembly has been made increasingly aware that harassment and hazing have become a major and pervasive problem within our schools, and that students who are continually filled with apprehension and anxiety are unable to learn and unlikely to succeed. Therefore, it is the policy of the state of Vermont that all Vermont educational institutions provide safe, orderly, civil and positive learning environments. Harassment, hazing and bullying have no place and will not be tolerated in Vermont schools. No Vermont student should feel threatened or be discriminated against while enrolled in a Vermont school.

State Action for Education Leadership Project The State Action for Education Leadership Project is part of The Wallace Foundation's larger educational leadership initiative designed to prepare, support and sustain a leadership cadre in each state that can transform schools and school systems to produce improved academic performance for low-income youth. Through this project, state government and education leaders compete for grants to support research, analysis and preparation of legislative and administrative actions that will prepare, support and sustain a group of education leaders (principals and superintendents) in each state. Dear Black Excel Student and Parent Supporters This is a quick gateway (below) that you should consider immediately to resource help. Each state has aid sources
you should inquire about. No question about that! These
aid sources cover a wide range of programs, sometimes
including resident and fee reductions, "incentive awards,"
grants, scholarships, loans and more. High school guidance
counselors should be keeping you abreast in regard to what's
available. Often, however, this has not been the case. This
is a BLACK EXCEL tip. Call or write the appropriate state
agencies for information packages and assistance. Getting
your state "info and financial aid" packages could mean
savings to you and your child/students. -Isaac Black, Black Excel S T A T E A I D S O U R C E S ALABAMA Alabama Commission on Higher Education Suite 205 3465 Norman Bridge Road Montgomery, Alabama 36105-2310 State Department of Education Gordon Persons Office Building 50 North Ripley Street Montgomery, Alabama 36130-3901
