SLC taxpayers likely to take another hit to fund libraries
Salt Lake City residents will probably pay more property taxes this year to pay for their libraries, but it is unclear how much more. In an unofficial poll Thursday night, at least four of the seven City Council members said they would support raising taxes. Some would agree to the full $1.7 million request by library administrators. Others wanted less.

Council ok's tax hike to fund Salt Lake City libraries
Salt Lake City residents are getting a tax increase. Whether that tax increase will be $1.3 million or $1.7 million remains to be seen, but a majority of the City Council on Thursday voted to support one of those two increases. The tax increase will pay for the Salt Lake City Library System, which has suffered financially as property tax rates have stagnated the past three years.

Sara Jane Cate, Chairwoman, WHCLIST writes, “I know I speak for all of the members of the White House Conference on Library and Information Services Taskforce when I express my appreciation to SIRS. Many of our members have the prints framed and hang them in their homes, their offices or libraries. Thank you, again, for your concept of the prints and especially for sharing them with me and others who are strong advocates for free public libraries.” The first library featured in the series, the
