81. Nolan Karras - Governor - Utah 2004
Roy City Planning Commission, 1975 1978 Government Appointments Chairman, Boardof Regents, utah Board of Higher education, 2001 – Present Finance Chair
http://www.karras2004.com/about.html
Meet Nolan Karras Nolan was born Dec. 30, 1944 in Ogden, Utah, the second son of Orlen and Afton Karras. He grew up in Roy and graduated from Weber High School. After serving a two-year mission for his church, he graduated from Weber State College with a degree in Finance. He later earned an MBA from the University of Utah.
Nolan is married to Lynda Purrington. They are the parents of three grown children; Brett, married to Micol Anne Olson; Jodie, married to R. Trent Sanders, and Darrin, married to Shannon Brooke Wancyzk. Nolan and Lynda have 10 grandchildren. They recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary.
Nolan enjoys golf, travel and family activities. Lynda loves to fish. She has her own boat and as soon as the ice melts she’s on the water. She also loves spending time with her grandchildren and shopping with the girls (Jodie, Micol and Brooke). Lynda enjoys cooking for a crowd and loves to play golf.
The couple raised their family in Roy where they still live today.
Here’s a glimpse of how Nolan’s life experience has shaped his political philosophy:
On Service
“In 1955 my dad and his neighbors saw that Roy City needed a volunteer fire department. They stepped up and filled it. For decades, Dad slept with his boots beside the bed and our old Dodge truck backed into the driveway so he could make a quick exit when the siren wailed. We’d watch from the front porch to see if Dad was driving the fire truck. I’ve never forgotten the pride I felt seeing my dad serve. He never shirked, never hesitated, and never cared about who got the credit.”

The state Board of Education's sex education guidelines say homosexuality shouldn't be discussed at school at all. The statutes prohibit the teaching of the intricacies of sex, the acceptance of or advocacy of homosexuality as a desirable or acceptable sexual adjustment or lifestyle and they also prohibit the acceptance or advocacy of promiscuity.
