The many and varied opportunities - some quite unexpected to us - that our graduates have found to use their talents also demonstrate that it is not possible to identify any single career path that would constitute the normal experience for geography graduates. Our Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programs are designed in response to this reality. The Bachelors programs provide sound FOUNDATIONS in various aspects of geography. The B.Sc. (Physical Geography) provides this foundation in the area of the earth surface environments, with study of climate, climatic change, earth materials, geomorphological processes, biogeography and biophysical resources. The Geographic Information Processing B.A. and B.Sc. provide sound foundations in the development and applications of remote sensing and geomatics. The B.A. programs provide the opportunities to pursue interrelated human geography topics and to choose integrated programs of study that address physical geography and the human-natural environment interface.

The Program has also received support from a series of short-term awards, such as the 1990 award from the National Endowment for the Humanities which was used to host a summer seminar on the Andes. LASP was also awarded a major grant from the Venezuelan Fundacion Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho intended for cooperative projects between scholars and students at Cornell and their counterparts in Venezuela. In 2004 LASP was awarded a three year grant from the Tinker Foundation to support graduate student research in Latin America and the Caribbean.

USC CPECS GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SCIENCE STUDIES AT USC History of Science is as old as our interest in the history of ideas. This century witnessed the emergence of Philosophy and Sociology of Science. More recently these areas of inquiry have been joined by Psychology, Rhetoric, and Anthropology of Science. Also, their scope has expanded to include "Science, Technology, and Medicine." All of this contributes to Science Studies as an interdisciplinary investigation of historical and contemporary aspects of science, medicine, and technology.
WHAT CAN SCIENCE STUDIES OFFER STUDENTS AT USC?
Science Studies provide a meeting ground for science and non-science students:
    • If you study Liberal Arts, you may want to gain respect for scientific reasoning and an appreciation of creativity in science without having to memorize definitions and formulae. Science Studies is for you.
    • If you are a pre-med student, a science or engineering major, you will be interested in the relation of science and society. How did the current theories become the theories that carried the day? Do scientists have an ethical and political reponsibility towards society? Are there radically different ways of "doing science"?
