Major: Social Studies Education Alternative
Preparation Program
Program Theme: Teacher as Reflective Professional
  • A minimum of a 2.5 undergraduate grade point average. A minimum score of 800 on the General Test (Verbal and Quantitative subtests only) on the Graduate Record Examination. A writing sample. A passing score on the PRAXIS I test.
Admission requirements specific to the program include:
  • An undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or the equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
    Documentation of previous work experience. Interviews conducted by faculty and school-based personnel. Other requirements that may be specified by the Department of Middle-Secondary Education and Instructional Technology.
Admission to the program is done once each year. Applicants must submit all admission materials by February 1st prior to the summer session they wish to enter the program. The alternative M.Ed. program is a carefully sequenced program that runs over four consecutive sessions (summer session through summer session). Students who do not follow the prescribed program sequence will be withdrawn and may re-apply to enter the next program cycle.
