The State of Washington is the most trade-dependent in the nation, and in 1999, the Puget Sound region was found to be the most export-dependent U.S. metropolitan area. Our international links have provided widespread benefits to the citizens of our State. Sound policies have helped protect our natural diversity and environment. Entrepreneurial savvy, high tech, rich agricultural farmlands, and a flourishing import-export base typify our State.
For almost three decades, the Washington Council on International Trade (WCIT) has been advocating on the benefits of a flourishing trade base.

Why Should My Company Export? By exporting, your company can expand its markets, increasing revenues and improving your competitive position. With the 96% of the world's consumers located outside the U.S., companies that export gain knowledge of the global marketplace, and use that knowledge to improve their product, technology, and competitive edge. Exporting also provides additional benefits such as increasing your domestic competitiveness, and allows for distribution of excess production capacity.
