Geography also affects our national identity, and for many National Parks is the fundamental reason for their establishment as parks. Therefore, the application of geographic concepts to park management and public education about parks is a natural step. Geography provides the framework, the lines of latitude and longitude, a unique position on the Earth's surface from which park resources can be studied and related. The modeling of landscapes can give us valuable information about the park ecosystem or historical setting, and help us visualize how it will look in the future under various management strategies... The main body of the hypertext 'From Revolution to Reconstruction' comes from An Outline of American History . This is a publication of the United States Information Agency . Counterparts have also been published on Government, Geography, Economy and Literature. ** : these are copies of the versions of the USIA made of the printed versions. They have no real hypertext-facilities. We will convert these to our hypertext versions within a short time. The Outline of American History has been revised over the years. Since the differences between the various editions show the changes in historiography over time, we shall eventually provide in hypertext-form all the editions we can get our hands on. We would like to put all other editions on the web, but have not found these in our libraries. If you could help us, we would be very grateful.

A new national collection of very detailed demographic profiles based on the 2000 Census Summary File 3, generated using code developed by a national State Data Center consortium , are now available on the MCDC site. The new reports complement reports previously generated for counties and places in Missouri and other selected states. The new reports are for larger geographic entities for the entire United States. The home page for the new series contains links to the main menu pages for each of the 4 geographic groups. Those are states, places of 50,000+, metro areas (complete and within-state) and a combined grouping of US Totals, Regions and Divisions. An index page (pdf format) has been created that can serve as a reference for those trying to figure out which profiles contain data on what subjects and based on which SF3 tables.

Title Index The panoramic map was a popular cartographic form used to depict U.S. and Canadian cities and towns during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Known also as bird's-eye views, perspective maps, and aero views, panoramic maps are nonphotographic representations of cities portrayed as if viewed from above at an oblique angle. Although not generally drawn to scale, they show street patterns, individual buildings, and major landscape features in perspective. The majority of items presented here are documented in PANORAMIC MAPS of Cities in the United States and Canada Albert Ruger, Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler, Lucien R. Burleigh, Henry Wellge, and Oakley H. Bailey who prepared more than fifty-five percent of the panoramic maps in the Library of Congress. Additional panoramic maps will be added throughout 1998. The mission of the Library of Congress is to make its resources available and useful to Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations. The goal of the Library's National Digital Library Program is to offer broad public access to a wide range of historical and cultural documents as a contribution to education and lifelong learning. The Library of Congress presents these documents as part of the record of the past. These primary historical documents reflect the attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs of different times. The Library of Congress does not endorse the views expressed in these collections, which may contain materials offensive to some readers.
