Monday 14 July 2003 Others are equally clear that being an Anglican Christian now, in just as natural and faithful and historically justified a way, is to offer a hospitable place for a wide variety of people engaged in spiritual exploration. We have never been bound to confessional statements in the way other churches have; we have a special relationship with the cultural life of our country, and we must not fall out of step with this if we are not to become absurd and incredible. We coax people towards a spiritual life that draws on the most sensitive and creative dimensions of what is natural to them, and try to encapsulate that in appropriate liturgies. Weekly E-Mail Updates Join Feature Story Methodists Address AIDS Crisis Among African Children in Big, Small Ways
To walk the streets of many African towns and villages is to see up close the toll taken by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Mostly, you see the devastation the disease has wrought in the faces of the children desperately trying to survive with no money, no food, no health care, no education and no hope.
But hope has rekindled in more and more of the children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS because of small and large efforts by The United Methodist Church.
United Methodists in south Georgia just provided an infusion of hope for the Humble Place, a Uganda project for needy children.

21 September 2001 WCC pastoral letter to US churches urges discernment in response to attacks
cf. WCC Press Release, PR-01-32, of 11 September 2001
WCC general secretary, Rev. Dr Konrad Raiser, sent a pastoral letter to WCC member churches in the USA on Thursday, 20 September, to express continued ecumenical support and sympathy in the wake of the attacks on New York and Washington, DC, and to urge discernment and encourage faithfulness in local, national and international responses. The letter also shares the WCC Executive Committee’s recommendation to send a delegation of church leaders from around the world to the US as "‘living letters’ of compassion, and to engage with you in a common reflection about how we can shape a shared witness to the world in a time of such great need". The text of the letter follows: "Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Grace and peace to you in our One Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Youth Current Audio Streams: 40 Days Of Purpose by Pastor Eric Jaffe Christians, Traditionalists Urged to Continue Battle for Marriage Author: Posted on: Mon 20 Oct 2003, 9:27 AM "Marriage Protection Week" wraps up on Saturday. A coalition of pro-family groups pushed for the proclamation to focus on the threats to Bible-based marriage from homosexual activists who are trying to redefine the institution to include same-sex unions. The week-long focus on traditional marriage was initiated by the "Arlington Group," a coalition of more than two dozen pro-family organizations organized by Dr. Don Wildmon, chairman and founder of the Mississippi-based American Family Association. Many of the leaders of those groups have stated that they feel this effort to preserve what they consider to be the foundation of society may be the most important battle their movement has fought in several decades. The White House issued a proclamation on October 3 designating the week as "Marriage Protection Week" and defining marriage as a "sacred institution" and a "union between a man and a woman." And on Thursday, Republican Congressman John Hostettler of Indiana introduced in Congress the Marriage Protection Act of 2003. Under the proposed act, un-elected federal judges and the U.S. Supreme Court would not be able to legislate from the bench and circumvent federal laws or policies regarding the definition or extension of benefits to married couples.
