Prostate Cancer General Information
General Information
The prostate is the walnut shaped gland in males located between the bladder and the urethra that is involved in the liquefaction of the male ejaculate. The gland is made up of secretory cells with a surrounding connective tissue stroma. Prostate cancer is the transformation of these secretory cells into malignant cells that have the potential to grow more rapidly and spread outside of the prostate. Prostate cancer will often start out localized in the prostate, but can then spread into adjacent tissue structures and lymph nodes if not detected early. The most common site of metastatic disease is the bone, but it can also spread to the lung, liver and other organs.

Questions in The Urology Forum are currently being answered by by Kevin Pho, M.D., who is board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Pho has a private practice in Internal Medicine and is also affiliated with an academic medical center where he works in emergency and inpatient venues. Subject: impotence
Topic Area: Urology - General
Forum: The Urology Forum
Question Posted By: Davey on Wednesday, February 04, 1998
I'm having a problem that I'm ashamed to discuss with anyone.
I'm 25 y.o. and have been impotent for about 6 months now. I've never had this problem before and don't know if its physical or mental. My last girlfriend really shamed me sexually because of my penis size and ever since I can't function. I don't think its physical, I don't have any other symptoms and am on no meds. I'm about 3 in. flacid and 5 1/4 in. erect and since my girlfriend laughed at me and told others about me, my problem started. I don't know how to get past this.
Any advice? Dear JoeK, The causes of impotence are multi-factorial and consist of psychological, hormonal, neurological, systemic diseases, drugs, and arterial (structurally related entities.) From what you describe, you have secondary impotencei.e. you were once able to sustain an erection which was suitable for penetration. What I would focus on is what happened during that period of time when your erections/ or quality of erections changed.
