Turkish language
Turkish Turkic family of languages , often considered a subclass of the Altaic languages . Thus Mongolian is possibly related to Turkish. Although the languages of other Turkic countries (former Soviet republics) are quite similar to Turkish (especially those of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan ), there are many major differences in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. The Turkish used in countries such as Bulgaria Greece Cyprus , the Republic of Macedonia Romania and Uzbekistan is also called Osmanli The characteristic features of Turkish are the vowel harmony (if the first vowel of a Turkish word is a front vowel, the second and other vowels of the same word are usually the same vowel or another front vowel; e.g. Erdem), the abundance of suffixes (and very few prefixes), and a word order that is the opposite of that in English and other Indo-European languages ). Turkish, like Finnish and Hungarian , is an agglutinative language See also: Turkish alphabet

Other related languages of the Middle East are Azeri, Turkmen and Khorasan Turkic.
Through its entire history, Turkish has used the local alphabets of the regions where Turks have settled. Hence, old Turkish texts can be found in alphabets as different as the Nestorian, Sogd, Uighur, Pali, Manichean, Brahman and through most of its literal period, in Arabic
Modern Turkish is a product of the reform work started since the formation of the Turkish republic in 1923. It was based on Ottoman Turkish and Old Anatolian Turkish, both which had used Arabic script. Modern Turkish uses the Latin alphabet, but with special signs for Turkish vowels. Another reform introduced to the older forms of Turkish were the purifying of the vocabulary, which had become greatly influence by Arabic and Persian words. In 1932 an estimated 60-65% of the words in Turkish were of foreign origin, a number which had fallen to 20-25% in recent years.

Turkish Language and Literature
The Turkish language belongs to the Altay branch of the Uralo-Altay linguistic family. Through the span of history, Turks have spread over a wide geographical area, taking their language with them. Turkish speaking people have lived in a wide area stretching form today's Mongolia to the north coast of the Black Sea, the Balkans, East Europe, Anatolia, Iraq and a wide area of northern Africa. Various dialects and accents have emerged from these distances. The history of the language is divided into three main groups, old Turkish (from the 7th to the 13th centuries), mid-Turkish (from the 13th to the 20th), and new Turkish from the 20th century onwards. During the five centuries of the Ottoman Empire period, Arabic and Persian words as well as words from other languages were assimilated into the Turkish language. The natural development of the Turkish language was severely hampered during this time. The "new language" movement began in 1928, five years after the proclamation of the Republic, and the Arabic alphabet was replaced by the Latin one. The new language movement also sought to rid the language of foreign words. The Turkish Language Institute was established in 1932 to carry out linguistic research and contribute to the natural development of the language. As a consequence of these efforts, modern Turkish is a literary and cultural language developing naturally and free of foreign influences. The history of Turkish literature may be divided into three periods reflecting the history of Turkish civilization:
