Guinea join Tunisia in last eight
Story Tools TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) A late equalizer from Titi Camara sent Guinea into the quarterfinals of the African Nations Cup alongside hosts Tunisia after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in their last Group A. That meant newcomers Rwanda were eliminated despite a 1-0 win over Congo, clinched by Abel Said's second half goal. Former Marseille, Liverpool and West Ham striker Camara scored his third goal in three matches with just six minutes left. But the elimination didn't spoil Rwanda's upbeat mood at the end of their first international tournament since over half a million citizens of the small Central African country were killed in a genocide 10 years ago "The players are dancing and singing," said Said. "It has been a great tournament for us. It is no shame that we are going home." Tunisia lost their first points in the tournament but still finished top of the group and earned the right to play their quarterfinal match in the capital. The Carthage Eagles finished with seven points, followed by Guinea with five and Rwanda with four. Congo lost all three group games. Tunisia showed the depth of their squad, playing a solid match despite major changes to the lineup that beat both Rwanda and Congo.

Tunisia blast probe: Suspect freed
Elissia, an eight-year-old German girl, was among those injured in the blast BERLIN, Germany (CNN) German authorities say they have released a person detained in connection with the explosion last week of a truck at a synagogue in Tunisia that killed at least 15 people, including 10 German tourists. The German federal prosecutor's office said it arrested the person on Monday night and said it had 24 hours from the time of the arrest to bring the suspect up on charges or release the person. But the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday that after questioning the person, it determined there was nothing to link to the crime. Spokeswoman Frauke Scheuten said the arrest was made after a tip to authorities about a telephone call from the North African nation to Germany before the blast, at the Ghriba synagogue, a historic and holy Jewish site on the Tunisian island of Djerba. By 25th November 24,000 German troops occupied most of northern Tunisia.

OUR FACTORY

WELCOME It's been more than one hundred years since the Belkhirias opened their first olive oil mill in the sunny Mediterranean country of Tunisia, located sixty miles south of Sicily. We've been cultivating trees and producing gourmet olive oil ever since, always refining our knowledge while maintaining traditional methods. Now, the Belkhirias of the United States are proud to offer Ruspina, a premium extra virgin olive oil, to the American market. Available directly from the producer ( Medagro ), our product reflects five generations of family commitment. Ruspina extra virgin olive oil is extracted from the finest selected olives of the Sahel region, where olive oil has been produced since before it was a part of the Roman Empire. It is cold pressed the old-fashioned way, using granite mill wheels to crush the olives. The natural characteristics of the oil are preserved, resulting in a rich golden color, intense aroma, and delicate flavor. This is a classic dipping oil. It is also an elegant, healthful ingredient for dressings, sauces, and all types of everyday cooking.

Home of the ancient city of Carthage, Tunisia has for a long time been an important player in the Mediterranean, placed as it is in the centre of North Africa, close to vital shipping routes.
In their time, the Romans, Arabs, Ottoman Turks and French realised its strategic significance, making it a hub for control over the region. OVERVIEW
FACTS
LEADERS MEDIA French colonial rule came to an end in 1956, and Tunisia was led for three decades by Habib Bourguiba, who insisted on advancing secular ideas, with emancipation for women, the abolition of polygamy and compulsory free education. Married to a Frenchwoman, Bourguiba insisted on an anti-Islamic fundamentalist line, while increasing his own powers to become a virtual dictator. In 1987 he was dismissed on grounds of senility and Zine El Abidine Ben Ali came into office. He continued with a hard line against Islamic extremists, but inherited an economically stable country. Despite introducing press freedoms and freeing some political prisoners, human rights groups have been critical of the government's treatment of its opponents. Mr Ben Ali faces reproach at home and abroad for the "99.9%" his party has consistently won in elections, including in the presidential poll in October 1999.
