Eight arrested over Tunisia blast
The synagogue has been an historic and holy Jewish site for the past 2,000 years Story Tools
PARIS, France French intelligence agents have arrested eight suspects in connection with a Tunisian synagogue attack in which 21 tourists died, interior ministry sources said. The suspects were detained near Lyon in south-central France and were being questioned by agents from France's counterintelligence service, known as the DST. No further details were immediately available. Fourteen Germans, five Tunisians and a Frenchman were killed when a tanker containing cooking gas exploded near the historic and holy Jewish site on Djerba last April. A group linked to Islamic militant group al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack. The Ghriba synagogue was full of tourists at the time of the blast. Djerba, about 375 miles (600 km) south of Tunis, is the symbolic hub of the Muslim north African nation's approximately 2,000-strong Jewish community. An Interior Ministry statement said documents seized during the arrests in the Lyon region seemed to make a direct link between the suspects and the bombing, Reuters said.

Tunisia clinch Nations Cup triumph
Story Tools RADES, Tunisia Hosts Tunisia won the African Nations Cup final on Saturday, beating Morocco 2-1 to spark wild scenes of celebration. It was the first Nations Cup title for Tunisia, hosting the event for the third time, and a triumph for coach Roger Lemerre 15 months after being sacked by France following their dismal World Cup exit. Ziad Jaziri hit the winning goal after 52 minutes, profiting from a bad error by the Moroccan goalkeeper Khalid Fouhami who spilt a tame cross into his path. Tunisia had led after five minutes when Francileudo dos Santos headed home a cross by Brazilian-born compatriot Clayton. Youssef Mokhtari equalized seven minutes before halftime. Mokhtari's fourth goal of the tournament was a diving header from Youssef Hadji's cross. Morocco struggled to launch a second comeback, consistently playing the ball to the edge of the box but then running up against a tight Tunisian defense. As the game drew to a close, Tunisia missed several chances to add a third goal with quick counter-attacks, but they held out after four minutes of stoppage time.

Food
Tunisian cooking is a blend of European, Oriental and desert dweller's culinary traditions. Its distinctive spicy fieriness comes from neighbouring Mediterranean countries and the many civilizations who have ruled Tunisian land Phoenician, Roman, Arab, Turkish, French, and the native Berber. Many of the cooking styles and utensils began to take shape when the ancient tribes were nomads. Nomadic people were limited in their cooking by what locally made pots and pans they could carry with them. A ::I is really the name of a conical-lidded pot, although today we apply the same word to what is cooked in it. Unlike other North African cuisine, Tunisian food is spicy hot. There is an old wife's tale that says a husband can judge his wife's affections by the amount of hot peppers she uses when preparing his food. If the food becomes bland then a man may believe that his wife no longer loves him. However when the food is prepared for guests the hot peppers are decreased to suit the more delicate palate of the visitor. Couscous is the national dish of Tunisia and can be prepared in a dozen different ways. It is cooked in a special kind of double boiler called a

German arrest over Tunisia blast
Elissia, an eight-year-old German girl, was among those injured in the blast BERLIN, Germany German police have arrested a man in connection with a truck explosion at a synagogue in Tunisia that killed 15 people, including 10 German tourists. The suspect whose identity is unknown was arrested in the western city of Duisburg as police raided five homes in Germany on Monday. The man had been under observation for some time, federal prosecutors said. No formal charges have been made. Prosecutors are questioning the man and have 24 hours from the time of the arrest to charge the suspect or release him. Germany's Stern magazine said police traced a phone call from the driver or passenger in the truck to a contact in Germany who had links to Islamist circles. Belgium pegged back by Tunisia
Glen De Boeck congratulates Wilmots after Belgium go ahead OITA, Japan (CNN) Belgium and Tunisia ended deadlocked at 1-1 under the roof of the Big Eye Stadium in Oita to leave Group H wide open going into the final round of matches. Belgium led for just four minutes before being pegged back in the 17th minute by a brilliant curling free-kick. And as the humidity slowed down the game in the second half, both teams looked happy to settle for a draw. Raouf Bouzaiane's left foot strike his first international goal was richly deserved as Tunisia, fighting to stay in the competition after losing their first match 2-0 to Russia, were quicker and created more chances before the break.

Tunisia bomb suspect held
The Tunisia synagogue was filled with tourists at the time of the blast Story Tools
PARIS, France (CNN) The brother of the man believed to have killed at least 18 people in a suicide truck bomb attack in Tunisia has been placed under investigation for being an accomplice to murder, according to French judicial sources. Walid Naouar, 22, is the brother of Nizar Naouar, the man authorities believe drove a truck full of fuel into a synagogue in Tunisia last April. At least 18 people, including a dozen German tourists, were killed in that terrorist act. The attack, which took place on the Tunisian island of Djerba, has been linked to al Qaeda. Statements on a Web site believed linked to the organization claim credit for the attack. German authorities say that hours before he drove the truck into the synagogue, Nizar Naouar spoke by telephone with Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, a senior al Qaeda leader believed to be one of the masterminds of the September 11 attacks. Walid Naouar was placed under investigation by a French anti-terrorism judge on Tuesday night. Under French law, being placed under investigation is one step from being formally charged.
