History:
Nahda , but it is not a legal political party within the Government. Nahda Government: Under the 1959 constitution, legislation is the responsibility of the unicameral Chamber of Deputies, whose 163 members are elected by universal adult suffrage for five years. All but 19 seats, which are reserved for opposition parties under a system of proportional representation, are elected under a simple majority system. The President, who is also elected by universal suffrage for a 5-year term, is head of state and appoints a Prime Minister and a Council of Ministers who exercise executive power under his leadership. There are also various advisory bodies: the State Council, the Social and Economic Council, the Constitutional Council and the Higher Islamic Council. Tunisia synagogue blast kills 5
TUNIS, Tunisia (CNN) Five people were killed on Thursday when a truck filled with natural gas blew up near a historic synagogue in Tunisia, a U.S. Embassy official in Tunis has confirmed. Tunisian officials think it may have been an accident, but Israeli officials are saying they believe the incident was a terror attack. Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Melchior said the blast near the historic El Ghriba synagogue on Djerba, an island off the south-eastern Tunisian coast, was a deliberate anti-Jewish attack, according to the Israeli daily newspaper Ha'aretz. "The wave of recent anti-Semitic events reached its peak today with the cruel murder of tourists at the ancient synagogue of Djerba in Tunis," Melchior is quoted as saying. A Foreign Ministry official also told CNN that the incident was a terror strike.

    Boumnijel back for Tunisia
TUNIS, Tunisia (Reuters) Tunisia have recalled goalkeeper Ali Boumnijel for the first time since the last World Cup to replace captain Chokri El Ouaer, who announced a surprise retirement this week. El Ouaer on Friday said a back problem had forced him to retire and that he would not be going to the World Cup. Ironically, El Ouaer had replaced Boumnijel as Tunisia's first choice goalkeeper just before the 1998 World Cup finals. Boumnijel was named in a group of 29 players who will go to Vittel in France from Monday for a week-long training camp. But Boumnijel, who plays for French team Bastia, will not be joining up with the team until after the French Cup final on May 11.

    Russia too strong for Tunisia
Heads up for Tunisia's Riadh Bouaziz (left) and Titov, who got Russia's first goal KOBE, Japan (Reuters) Russia made a solid start to their World Cup campaign when they cruised to a 2-0 victory over Tunisia and moved to the top of group H. Second-half goals from Yegor Titov and Valery Karpin, from the penalty spot, secured Russia the victory their dominance warranted, though they impressed only intermittently. In fact, it was not until Tunisia goalkeeper Ali Boumnijel's 59th minute mistake pounced upon by Titov for the breakthrough that Russia settled.
