Tunisia General information about Tunisia from the CIA's 2000 edition of the World Factbook. Le Kef, Tunisia Roman Africa by Robert D. Kaplan Despite its long borders with Algeria and Libya, Tunisia "is an island," explains Oussama Romdhani, the director of the government's information agency. Much of the frontier is desert, and the land crossings are used mainly by Algerians and Libyans, who come to buy consumer products, including alcohol. Since the days of ancient Carthage the area that makes up present-day Tunisia has been like this: an oasis of urbanity, relative prosperity, and stable government jutting out into the Mediterranean, close to Sicily, and yet squeezed between vast tracts of unruly tribal territory. Though lacking the oil and natural gas of their Libyan and Algerian neighbors, Tunisia's 9.6 million people are by some estimates 60 percent middle class, with a poverty rate of only six percent. Yearly economic growth rarely falls below five percent, and inflation hovers around three percent. The World Economic Forum rates Tunisia the most competitive country in Africa, whereas Algeria does not even appear on its list of twenty-four African economies. Although many developing countries waste money on grandiose projects, Tunisia devotes a quarter of its budget to education.

I'm from Tunisia, which was known in the past as 'Ifriquia' In fact, it gave its name to the continent 'Africa'. It has been well known as a peaceful and hospitable country since the time of Hannibal and Carthaginian Empire. Our citizens are one of the most open-minded on the continent.
What 3 things do you value most?
Respect of human rights, Family, Honesty
How will you follow the World Cup?
On national TV What do you wear when you support your team? When I support our team, I forget my head and listen to my heart. I even forget my age. So, I wear our team’s colours and especially our traditional ‘Chechia’ which is a red had famous throughout the region. (Tommy Cooper wore one just like that!) How far will your team get and why?

Tunisian Vacation/Holiday Resort Page
Welcome to the Tunisian Vacation/Holdiay Resort Page (a personal web page). Tunisia continues to become one of the more popular destinations for Europeans and Middle Easterners who are on holiday.
Its beautiful beaches, history, culture, and the friendliness of the Tunisian people have always enticed many to visit.
In recent years, the number of tourists have grown considerably (over 4 million last year). Dozens of 4 and 5 star hotels have been built with an additional 100,000 hotel beds being built over the next few years.
The increased night time attractions also adds to the appeal. The Tunisian government has selected a small number of companies to open Las Vegas style Casinos which also offer excellent restaurants and Cabarets.
This site will enable you to learn more about this beautiful country and what it has to offer holiday and vacation travelers from all over the world.
Additionally, I will also list possible investment areas (that is what attracted me to Tunisia originally). You are welcome to email me with URL's that discuss Tunisian investing: Tunisian Vacation/Holiday email
I have numerous links to other Tunisian general information, hotel, and tourism sites to make your information gathering that much easier.

Tunisia is a presidential republic with a developing economy. Tourist facilities are widely available in the main tourist areas. The workweek is Monday to Friday, with government offices open on Saturday mornings. Most stores are closed on Sunday, except in resort areas, where many remain open.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: A passport is required. A visa is not required for a stay of up to four months. For longer visits, Americans are required to obtain a residence permit. A residence permit may be requested and obtained from the central police station of the district of residence. Americans born in the Middle East or with Arabic names have experienced delays in clearing immigration at airports upon arrival. American citizens of Tunisian origin are expected to enter Tunisia on their Tunisian passports. If a Tunisian-American succeeds in entering on an American passport, there is a high probability that a Tunisian passport will be required before exiting the country. For further information concerning entry requirements for Tunisia, travelers may contact the Embassy of Tunisia at 1515 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20005, tel. 202-862-1850. While the majority of these tourists are Europeans seeking sun, sea and sand, Tunisia offers the sophisticated traveler many more enticing attractions. As the breadbasket for the Roman Empire, the northern part of Tunisia is filled with wonderful antiquity sites, with many still to be excavated. These are often in portions of the country that have thus far, been spared the mass tourist development found in many coastal resorts. In addition, the south of Tunisia offers exotic desert landscapes, dotted with oases and architecture of a style that has changed little throughout the centuries. Tunisia is a reflection of the many cultures that have inhabited it, from its indigenous Berbers, to Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Ottomans and the French, to name a few. In addition, the warmth of the people is found throughout the country. Taking the time to read about Tunisia before you visit will help you get the most out of your trip. Please visit our
