Compulsory annual lectures, required for Bachelor's or Master's degrees, cover mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum physics and statistical physics. Mathematical methods and the development of analytical and numerical skills are emphasised. Special courses in particle physics, cosmology, general relativity, mathematical physics and solid state physics are also regularly offered. The research fields of the Division are particle physics, cosmology and space physics.

NEW THEORETICAL
PHYSICS
James A. Putnam
Alternative u nified physics theory. Mechanical unity is achieved by redefining the fundamentals. This unity continues on into higher level theory. All theoretical properties have a common origin. Beyond the science of physics is the vast unknown nature of the rest of the universe, a universe of life and intelligence. The goal is to unite physics, life and intelligence. A natural unity far greater than that offered by theoretical interpretations of mechanical causes for changes in velocity. Essays on physics, life and intelligence are included. THEORY INTRODUCTION PAGE TABLE OF CONTENTS UPDATE LIST FOREWORD ... unlinked TABLE OF CONTENTS You will find very different ideas here. The theory includes sufficient mathematics. There are some essays that do not include math for a wider audience. Physics mechanics is presented, but not revered. Reverence is reserved for life, intelligence and the fullness of their universe. THANK YOU FOR VISITING

University of Bristol
Theoretical Physics Group History of the Theory Group
Bristol has a strong tradition of theoretical physics, J E Lennard-Jones was the first Professor of Theoretical Physics in the UK. After he left Bristol in 1932 the chair was occupied by the 27 year old N F Mott. Mott, together with H Jones, showed that the new quantum mechanics could help unravel the properties of metals and alloys. Other notable Bristol Theorists include H Fröhlich, D Bohm, F C Frank, M H L Pryce, J F Nye and J M Ziman. These pages describe the work of our current theory group. Following the Bristol tradition most of the theorists are involved in collaborations with one or more of the experimental groups in the physics laboratory. Bouncing and Spreading
