Congratulations Claire Holley Soap and Rock Do Mix Jan Krist's new CD ... MORE NEWS Buddy Greene and Kenny Meeks Buddy Greene's CD, "Rufus," brings the house down both musically and lyrically. Recalling Buddy's formative influences, "Rufus" weaves bluegrass, blues, and the Beatles into a rousing celebration of acoustic music consistent with the spirit of the Grammy-winning soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" The CD is named after Greene's own middle moniker and features an all-star ensemble of legendary players and friends such as Jerry Douglas (dobro), Sam Bush (mandolin), Chuck Leavell (piano), Ron Block (banjo), Kenny Malone (percussion), Byron House (bass), and Ashley Cleveland (vocals), among others. Kenny Meeks began his music career in Detroit as a member of Jan Krist's band. He moved to Nashville in the mid-'80s, and by 1994, Kenny was writing and playing music that combined country and blues idioms, music which came to be known as "alt-country." Thurs. June 24, 2004

The Concordia Youth Theatre is a society founded in 1974 . The aim of the Youth Theatre is to encourage younger members to take an active role in the performing side of theatre. Which allows them to develop their skills and eventually perform with an adult society, such as The Tinhatters, The AOS, The New Theatre Players and The Guild. We also try to encourage our members to participate in other areas of theatre including working back-stage, lighting, sound and production design. The Youth Theatre produce 1 show each year which normally runs for 4 nights in June. However due to an increase in demand for tickets over the past 3 years, an extra night has been added to the run of the show. Passionate, Provocative, Political, Powerful We are thrilled to learn our work in the 2003/04 season has been recognized with 17 Jeff Recommendations. DR. SEX, the wonderful new musical comedy by Larry Bortniker, is nominated for 9 awards, including Best Musical, Best New Work, Best Direction, Musical Direction, Choreography, and Costumes. The three stars - Jamie Axtell, Sarah Laue, and Joshua Campbell - were also nominated.
Others on the award list include Michael Murphy, author of SIN: A CARDINAL DEPOSED, and Jim Sherman, who stars as Cardinal Bernard Law in that piece. Mark Savage's musical PINAFORE!, the hit of last summer's Pride Series, got six nominations, including Best Musical, Choreography, and acting nods for Jamie Axtell, Scott O'Brien, Gerald Kelal, and Naomi Landman.
The award ceremony on June 7, 2004 promises lots of fun. But that fun will continue next year as PARADE and CRY HAVOC are already nominees for next year's awards.
If you have had any involvement with Bailiwick, you are well aware of my interest in new works that are kinetic and daring, and you will not be disappointed by the world premiere of SIN: A CARDINAL DEPOSED. SIN has received great reviews here in Chicago, as well as the New York Times and the Boston Globe. SIN will continue running in Chicago, while the original cast travels to Boston June 9 to 27 to perform in Arlington's Regent Theater.
