Information for Schools According to the report titled “ Who Will Teach Montana’s Children ” published in February 2001 for the Certification Standards and Practices Advisory Council (CSPAC) of the Montana Board of Public Education, Montana will need to hire roughly 909 new teachers each year for the several years. The report also indicates that only about 265 of those annual vacancies can be expected to be filled by recent graduates from the eight institutions within the state offering teacher education programs. In short, as you are undoubtedly aware, many of Montana’s schools can expect to have a difficult time filling their available positions. Nationally, the situation is quite similar. The document " The Supply and Demand of Elementary and Secondary School Teachers in the United States ", an ERIC digest published in 1999, indicates that 2.2 million additional teachers will need to be hired nationally to keep pace with teacher retirements and the growth in student populations. The Troops-to-Teachers program, managed by the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Support (DANTES) for the U.S. Department of Education, was initially established in 1993 to address force restructuring in the military by assisting retiring and separating active duty military personnel transition to new careers in public education. The military drawdown is over and the program has been redefined to address the actual and projected nationwide teacher shortage. The Troops-to-Teachers program persists not just because it continues to fill a need, but because it fills that need with an accomplished population that has added to the diversity and success of the teachers in the classroom.

Air Force Officer Disciplined for Saying
Bush Allowed September 11 Attacks Hijacker Attended US military School By Jerry Isaacs
21 June 2002
A US Air Force officer in California recently accused President Bush of deliberately allowing the September 11 terror attacks to take place. The officer has been relieved of his command and faces further discipline. The controversy surrounding Lt. Col. Steve Butler's letter to the editor, in which he affirmed that Bush did nothing to warn the American people because he "needed this war on terrorism," received scant coverage in the media. Universally ignored by the press, however, was that the officer was not merely expressing a personal opinion. He was in a position to have direct knowledge of contacts between the US military and some of the hijackers in the period before the terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and damaged the Pentagon. Lieutenant Colonel Butler, who wrote in a letter to the editor of the Monterey County Herald charging that "Bush knew about the impending attacks," was vice chancellor for student affairs at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California — a US military facility that one or more of the hijackers reportedly attended during the 1990s. In his May 26 letter to the newspaper, Butler responded to Bush supporters, who had written the paper opposing the congressional investigation into the September 11 events. He wrote:

Of the 396 expected graduates this June, 75 to 80 have already either dropped out or have skipped too much school to graduate on time, she said. Such are the circumstances for schools connected to the many installations across the country that have been rotating troops since Sept. 11, 2001. Currently, about 135,000 American troops are serving in Iraq, several thousand are deployed in Afghanistan, and still thousands more are in the Gulf region or other hotspots across the globe. Military Children in Transition and Deployment search ), said the Pentagon has no firm data for the number of children, including those whose parents are serving in the National Guard and Reserves, directly affected by current deployments. Recent reports have put the number served by public schools at close to 650,000. School officials say because of their location outside of major military installments, they have always been prepared for transitory issues, since children frequently come to and go from the school district when their parents are transferred. But the war has tested the skills of many teachers, some of whom are military spouses themselves.

Program Information Texas Military Institute, TX. Founded in 1893, TMI is the oldest Episcopal Church-sponsored college-preparatory school in the Southwest. TMI’s vision is unique, bold, and timely. At a time when the independent school world seems to be more concerned with “being all things to all people,” TMI stands out because the mission of the school drives our program and sets our standards. The mission of TMI is to provide an excellent educational community, with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, challenging motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership. Our goal is to produce servant leaders who are compassionate, selfless, responsible, enlightened, and inspired to go out and change the world. While we acknowledge that we are a college preparatory school, we do not limit our identity to achievements based on such statistics as Advanced Placement scores, SAT averages, and college placement. We do embrace and celebrate the idea of academic accomplishments, yet we are committed as much to the formation of the Christian character as to providing a premier academic experience. Academics
TMI provides its students with a classic, fundamental college-preparatory education. In addition to the core curriculum, students are required to take one year of fine arts, and one year of religion. The Middle School program follows a similar track and includes a strong study skills component to prepare students for success in the upper grades.

Every day when I wake up in the morning and go to school, it gives me great honor to know that I am going to school with not just ordinary kids, but unique kids. They may look like the average schoolgirl or schoolboy, but there is something special about them - they are military brats. Some people may think military brats are treated better just because they have a parent in the armed services. This stereotype is incorrect. There are no mints on our pillows.
