Terminals
Terminals (including standard asynchronous driver terminals, window-terminal driver terminals, and virtual terminals) are asynchronous devices in the device configuration-table file. The system console and RSN connections are also asynchronous terminal devices. You must create an entry in the devices.tin file for each terminal that a module supports. In the devices.tin file, the field specifies the type of terminal (this field also specifies the type of printer and tape drive). This section provides information on devices.tin file entries for the following terminals. For a list of the terminals (hardware) that Stratus offers, see the section "Terminals and Printers'' in Appendix A . For a list of the of the terminal types that are compiled and installed on your module, issue the command (the VOS Commands Reference Manual describes the list_terminal_types command). The following manuals also present information on terminals.

We also offer design expertise in cordless telephone developments, including DECT and its US counterpart WDCT. 1999 saw the successful completion of the first of several 3G projects undertaken at Roke Manor Research covering the European, American and Chinese standards, involving both RF and baseband research and development. Today our wide ranging systems knowledge places us in a unique position to tackle the complex trade-offs needed in multi-mode terminals design. Roke Manor Research maintains a world-focus for its cellular developments servicing the needs of the European and US markets and providing solutions for both the IS-95 and IS-136 (USA) standards. We are also at the forefront of PA linearisation, which is a key technique for today's highly linear systems such as EDGE and 3G in both base station and terminal design. We have carried out a wide range of terminals software design tasks for GSM, GPRS and GPS implementations, including development of hardware drivers and embedded software on real-time operating systems. Our expertise extends to design and development of applications for SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards including the SIM Application Toolkit software for GSM engines. In addition, we have successfully implemented Layer 1 software processing on dedicated hardware and state-of-the-art DSPs for 2G and 3G programmes, providing complete solutions for customers where needed.

hardware needed for real terminals..or consoles
one thing I hope to do when I get acquainted(future, hopefully near )is to open consoles so mt family has, in effect simultaneous access to the computer so I can make upgrades nto one computer rather than buy and maintain several since hardware tends not to be cheap, I'm trying to think(and save up) ahead of time when that day comes what is needed for each terminal?

Used as CDC 3200 system disk. CDC 844-21 Removeable pack disk drive. 110 M 6-bit characters per pack; 644 characters per sector and 24 sectors per track; 404 tracks; 10 to 55 ms positioning time; average access of 38.2 ms; 3600 rpm; nominal transfer rate of 921,600 chars/sec or 6.8 Mbps. Not all disk controllers could handle this transfer rate, so in the early dates 1:2 sector interleaving was used. Required 881 disk packs with 19 data and one (pre-formatted) servo surface.

B005 LRISP TELECOMM HARDWARE COSTS
BACKGROUND
The Long Range Information Systems Plan (LRISP) recognized the need for system sponsor investment in the implementation of automated systems. Sponsor-borne costs were approximated in order to add perspective to the costs presented in the Plan. Subsequent to the approval of the
Plan, certain of those costs have been approved for funding by the central administration. Others remain the responsibility of sponsors. In this way, investments in automation are encouraged according to the sponsoring management`s cost/benefit analysis.
PURPOSE
This policy delineates funding issues with regard to telecommunications hardware costs.
DEFINITIONS
IBM plug-compatible: An IBM device or substitution for an IBM device, including connecting to and/or in place of an IBM device.
IR: Information Technology
Alternative or substitute equipment: Devices such as personal computers, point-of-sale equipment, and other computing equipment capable of performing as an IBM plug-compatible terminal. Local devices: Terminals, personal computers, printers, plotters, and other types of equipment for the use of a localized area, are not part of university-wide services provided by IR.
