Shoney's, East Tennessee Children's Hospital and Baptist Senior Services know that helping children maintain a healthy lifestyle is about the relationship among a healthy diet, daily physical activity and social relationships. With that goal in mind, an innovative Eating and Living Healthy program has been developed to give third-grade students throughout East Tennessee an interactive curriculum that teaches about the importance of combining nutrition and exercise.
(requires Adobe Acrobat Reader Shoney's of Knoxville strongly believes in contributing to the communities it serves; so in 1996, Shoney's continued its on-going partnership with Children's Hospital to introduce the Eating Healthy program. The program now offers a well-rounded view focused on overall nutrition and fitness. The Eating and Living Healthy program is designed to teach children how they will benefit from leading an active, healthy lifestyle. The Living Healthy component was added to encourage physical fitness as it relates to a healthy diet to create a healthy body. In addition, social relationships are key for a healthy life, so Baptist Health System's Senior Services joined the team to incorporate grandparenting and intergenerational communication into the program. The curriculum has been distributed to third-grade classrooms throughout Knox, Blount, Loudon, Sevier, Campbell, Anderson and Roane Counties. If you have a third grader, ask him or her about what he or she has been learning in school about

Nutrition

Healthy eating it's all about choices, and we have more food choices available today than ever before. The average American family spends 20 minutes per day in food preparation at home and eats out four times per week. Therefore, eating a variety of foods on a consistent basis in moderate portions is a constant challenge. In our mobile society, "fast food" provides a quick fix for satisfying hunger, but where does it leave us in terms of eating for health? We know that families need information and direction in meeting the demands of "life in the fast lane." The YMCA's Nutrition Counseling Program is designed to help meet those needs. Nutrition counseling is now available at the Maryland Farms Family YMCA Green Hills Family YMCA Brentwood Family YMCA Franklin Family YMCA , and

What is ENP?

For almost 35 years, the Expanded Nutrition Program (ENP), part of the federally-funded Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) , has helped Texas youth and families with young children develop healthy eating and lifestyle practices. This Texas Cooperative Extension program (in cooperation with Family and Consumer Sciences ) delivers research-based information and education in the home, classroom, and community group settings to help Texans, with limited resources, make better nutrition and health decisions. The results are strong, nurturing families; healthy children; positive youth development; and savings in food and healthcare costs. What are the objectives of ENP?
