This is short travel log based on my experiences at the Tennessee Library Association annual meeting held in Knoxville, TN, April 11-13, 1996.
Billy Tindall (Tennesee Tech University)
"Multimedia Use in the AV Library" The first presentation I attended was given by Billy Tindall. He described his activities as a part of the University's education technical center and his responsibilities as an audio-visual co-ordinataor and developer. He demonstrated an effective morphing trick where he transformed a photograph into a line drawing. This was the first morphing example I have seen that was tastful. Tindall described that pull his resources from all over campus since funds are tight. He suggests to faculty that they incorporate AV materials and supplies into their grants in order to insure his center's efffectiveness. He described his funding as 50% from the library, 10% from the computing center, and 40% from instructional computing. As the faculty is becoming more educated about the use of multi-media in his institution, he is becoming more of a specialist and providing specialized services while the faculty create their presentations. In the future he and his department hope to be creating CDROM presentations and distributing them throughout the university. Examples include seismic databases or bibliographic instructions.

New Online Library Tutorials Available
In an effort to offer greater support to distance education programs and to bridge the gap between the library’s services and the campus community, we have created online, web-based tutorials . The series of self-paced modules will help you learn how to find and evaluate library resources that are available to Health Science Center faculty, staff, and students.  The tutorial modules can be completed in any order. They can also be used as a source of reference for any interested researchers. The modules introduce you to some important search concepts, guide you in learning how to use information resources, and provide links to the library’s electronic books and journals. Please give us your comments and suggestions about the tutorial. Your input is valuable for us in updating and improving the tutorials.

    Full Text, Indexes, Abstracts
The University of Tennessee Library provides access to several different types of digital collections. The full-text collection includes not only aggregator services, such as ProQuest Research Library and Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, but also publisher's services, like Elsevier's ScienceDirect, and the SOLINET netLibrary collection of electronic books. Datafiles are also collected, such as COMPUSTAT, Global Access, and Beilstein Crossfire, as well as the traditional indexing and abstracting service titles, like Humanities Abstracts, ABI Inform, and Engineering Index. Many titles in the collections are networked locally or remotely, while some are available on stand-alone workstations.

    UT Song Index
The UT Song Index is an Internet-available database providing access to about 50,000 songs in more than 1,500 published song anthologies owned by the George F. DeVine Music Library at the University of Tennessee. Searchable fields include song title, large work title, composer, author of text, anthology title, call number, song type, accompaniment, first line and chorus first line, geographical or ethnic source, and language. It is used most frequently to locate the words and music to specific songs published in collections. Remote users may identify collections containing the songs of interest and then determine if the collections are owned in a local library.

Former GVCNRCTC Librarian Honored by Tennessee Library Group
A former librarian and adjunct faculty member at what is now the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College has been honored by the Tennessee Library Association at its annual conference in Knoxville. Jack Stacy, formerly of Caldwell, now of Nashville, was presented with the "Tennessee Resource Sharing Award" by the association which represents all public libraries in the state as well as most educational libraries. In presenting the award to the Iaeger, WV, native, the association noted that "Jack Stacy has served a vital role in resource sharing in Tennessee. He has probably trained more librarians to us TEL (Tennessee Electronic Library) than anyone else in the state. As manager of the Impact network, he has helped libraries to provide materials to their patrons from all over the state. He has represented the State Library on the TennShare (organization of Tennessee Libraries) board, contributing ideas that have helped TennShare to grow and prosper." A 1961 graduate of White Sulphur High School, he graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, in 1965 and earned his Master in Library Science in 1989 from the University of South Carolina.
