Introduction
Library users who have The Tennessee Library Card ( TLC ) stickers on their library cards can check out materials free of charge at all participating public libraries TLC borrowers will be subject to rules of the lending library, including overdue fines, lost charges, etc. (For WCPL rules TLC borrowers will be expected to return materials to the lending library. If you are a resident of Williamson County and want to participate in the TLC program, ask a staff member to attach a TLC sticker to your library card. Tennessee Health Science Library Association WHO WE ARE The Tennessee Health Science Library Association (THeSLA) was founded in 1977 to promote education and communication among those responsible for health science libraries in Tennessee. Membership is open, with board approval, to individuals engaged in or concerned with health science libraries. Dues are $40 annually and include membership in THA as well as THeSLA. PURPOSE Membership in THeSLA provides the opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge needed for the development, maintenance, and growth of health sciences libraries. It facilitates contact with others in the field and benefits and promotes the exchange of information. Resource sharing is a significant element of THeSLA's program. BENEFITS Two meetings featuring education programs are held annually. The spring workshop, held at different geographical locations yearly, provides an opportunity for members to be brought up to date on developments affecting their libraries. The fall meeting is held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Tennessee Hospital Association. Medical Library Association courses, carrying MLA continuing education credits are usually offered at this meeting. Examples of courses that have been taught are " Library services and organization for the small health science library," "Cataloging/NLM classification," "Keeping up with NLM's PubMed," "The electronic journal environment: challenges and solutions," "Health resources on the Internet," and "Alternative medicine on the web."
