Tennessee Geographic Regions by Mrs. Beth Hudson and Mrs. Donna Watson Subject: Social Studies Theme: Geographic Regions Skills: Use a computer Prepare a drawing of the state of Tennesseestate Draw a scale of landscape, shape, and elevation Use salt dough clay to fill regions Materials: Access to Internet and/or map-making software Tennessee History textbook Salt dough mixture poster board yarn previously hand-drawn map newspapers, scoop, markers Time Frame: 5 days Grade Level: Type of Task: Invention Objective: Students will identify the 6 geographic regions of Tennessee. Students should be able to determine boundaries of the geographic regions, topography, and elevations. Prior Preparations: Students will use internet access and or map-making software, text, and reference materials to determine the geographic regions of Tennessee. Once region boundaries, landscape, and elevations have been determined, students prepare a drawing of the state with geographic regions labeled. Under the drawing, students draw a scale of landscape and elevation scale. Procedure: Students work in groups of 4-5. Each group draws the outline of the state of Tennessee on their poster board and the outline of the 6 geographical regions.
