TN is 7th worst in physician/pop ratio. FP most likely to meet state's needs, FP needs more support. Loan repayment helping but needs to be a constant (20 or so described in relation to numbers lost per year) Describe pipeline, programs, and states efforts TN Communities are made up of four components Education Economy Health care Leadership Rural family physicians support 18 jobs and $380000 in local economy. TN communities lose jobs and businesses because of inadequate health care. Hospitals also close and can deplete communities of a major employer and over $3 million in local economy. lose rural physicians due to condition of schools Support for medical education and healthcare can be coordinated to benefit each. Institutions provide support (CHC), technical assistance, service (dungannon, mtn city), stabilize groups (of TN rural docs), facilitate state programs (recruitment fair, aafp stud-res, harmony) Must work with all the above areas. All are interconnected. With major expenditures in education and economic development, health care must keep abreast or those monies are wasted. The following represents such an effort:

LEGISLATION BIOGRAPHICAL INFO PHOTOS ... PRESS Opening Statement of U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander Children and Families Subcommittee Chairman Parents Raising Children: the Workplace April 22, 2004 This is another in a series of subcommittee hearings on the job of being a parent in America today. During 2003 we held five hearings at Fort Campbell (on the Tennessee-Kentucky border), Fort Stewart (in Georgia), Offutt Air Force Base (in Nebraska), Groton Submarine Base (in Connecticut), and here in Washington, D.C. - focusing on support for military parents raising children. Among other subjects, we investigated child care, housing, pay and reciprocity among states on educational standards as ways of providing support for today's fighting men and women, more than half of whom are married and more than half of whom have children. The job of being a parent is harder today. Families are broken, and parents are busier than ever before. Children are hurting and, as a result, so is our country. Perhaps the single greatest problem our country faces today is not terrorism, not jobs growth but the absence of parents in the lives of their own children. Committed loving parents who set a good example are the greatest gifts we can give to a child. But too often we have devalued the job of being a parent. Trash on television, the risk of drug and sexual abuse, higher taxes, the separation of marriage from parenting, unsafe streets, schools that don't educate - all of these make it harder for parents, especially low-income parents.

Child Care Licensing Tennessee law defines "child care" as the provision of supervision, protection and, at a minimum, the basic needs of at least five children, who are not related to the primary care givers, for three or more hours of the day, but less than twenty-four hours a day.
Some types of child care must be regulated; other types of child care may operate without a license. All persons or entities operating a child care center, a family child care home, drop-in center, or a group care home must be licensed by the Department of Human Services.

We are located thirty-five miles north of Memphis, in the town of Covington, Tennessee, a setting that provides both rural and urban experiences. Covington, located in Tipton County, is a community of about fifty thousand people, which gives the practice small town friendliness and a quiet, safe place for families. The practice is housed in a ten thousand square foot family practice center that provides state-of-the-art equipment, twelve examination rooms, and excellent ancillary services. We are associated with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton, right next door to the clinic.

Did you know that if people with disabilities voted at the same rate as the non-disabled, 7 million more votes would have been cast in the last presidential election? In Tennessee, that translates to an additional 133,600 votes that would have been cast.
Voting is a civil right! Not being able to vote is a denial of citizenship. Voting is also an important way to advance our disability agenda the full and equal participation of Tennessee citizens with disabilities in all aspects of life. Go to our Voter Campaign to find out more.
OVERVIEW:
Organization: Vision and Mission
The Tennessee Disability Coalition ("The Coalition") promotes the full and equal participation of men, women and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. Seven disability advocacy groups committed to collaboration founded the Coalition in 1984. The Coalition is the only statewide disability network organization concerned with all disabilities, all age groups and all disability issues. We have grown to include 45 disability organizations working together to advocate for public policy that ensures self -determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of society.
