    Counseling Programs
You Can Make A Difference In The Life Of A Child! Counseling services through Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes are open to the public for any child, family, and/or unwed mother. Our counseling programs include, but are not limited to, individual, family, and group counseling as well as post-adoption counseling. These programs and services are rendered by qualified TBCH staff at no cost to the recipients. Children in residence and their families (residential program, adoptive homes, foster family homes, alternative homes, Houses of Healing and Hope, Living Waters, and Family Preservation programs) may receive individual, family, and/or group counseling by either their program director, assigned social worker under the supervision of the program director, and/or a professional counselor whose services are contracted. Counseling topics vary and focus on the individual needs of children and families such as family dynamics, placement, adjustment issues, grief counseling, anger management, self-esteem, time management, etc. Potential adoptive and/or foster families may receive counseling from the Family Program Director. This service is now mandated by some states for adoptees seeking birth family and/or reunification prior to the release of identifying information.

    Family Preservation Programs
You Can Make A Difference In The Life Of A Child! Family Preservation programs are designed to serve children by focusing on the child's family as a target of intervention. Although there are times when the removal of a child from a home is needed, at Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes we believe that, no matter the situation, all children want and need to be loved and accepted by their families. By working with public service agencies, families, volunteers and court systems, we are able to reunite families in a more timely manner. Our Family Preservation staff are on-call to clients 24 hours a day. Our follow-up services include emergency calls and visits in times of crisis. The program emphasizes ministering to families while providing professional help that otherwise would not be available to the families we serve. TBCH operates family preservation programs in Brentwood and Knoxville. For more information, e-mail familypreservation@tbch4kids.org

Formally established in 1979, the Center's objective is to promote old time music and pay tribute to the Original Carter Family (A.P., Sara, and Maybelle Carter). The Saturday concerts highlight the musical style made popular by the Carter Family, who are considered by many as country music's first family. In keeping with the traditional music style, no electrical instruments are allowed (everything is acoustic). There's lots of dancing and fun for the entire family. Shows are family-oriented; no alcohol is permitted at concerts. O nce each year, a two-day (Friday and Saturday) festival takes place the first weekend of August. Festival show times are from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day. Mountain craftsmen are on hand to sell their goods, and there's lots of good country cooking going on, too. C onsider spending a Saturday with us in rural southwest Virginia for an evening of musical entertainment you won't soon forget. Come early and browse through our museum before the show. Chances are you'll make some new friends and leave us with some fond memories. We'd love to have you visit us.

Gary Moore is one of the experts when it comes to knowing how to conduct International Space Station experiments safely using equipment on board. As a crew procedure engineer at the Marshall Center, he analyzes Space Station requirements with the research scientists whose experiments are performed on the orbiting laboratory, and writes procedures for the crew to follow. Photo: Moore (NASA/MSFC) Gary Moore watched NASA go to the Moon when he was 8 years old. And, like some people in his hometown of Caney Springs, Tenn., he couldn't quite believe his eyes. "Growing up in the country and working hard on the farm, I never dreamed of space travel or being part of the country's space program," he says. Proud of his rural roots, Moore believes that boyhood chores of working with cows and laboring in the tobacco fields helped to instill in him a work ethic that, even today, fuels his enthusiasm for challenges as he plays a role in scientific achievements that might have seemed unbelievable to him more than 30 years ago.

    http://tsdeaf.org/about/about.html
The Tennessee School for the Deaf was established in 1844 by an act of the State Legislature, and opened its doors with nine students in 1845. The school was located in what is now known as "Old City Hall" on Summit Hill Drive in Knoxville, Tennessee until 1924. It was then moved to its present location, a ninety-six acre campus located on the banks of the Tennessee River in South Knoxville.
The Tennessee School for the Deaf offers an individualized and comprehensive educational program. The school provides a total learning environment that utilizes state of the art curricula, materials and methods for the purpose of preparing students for adult life. Students are equipped academically, vocationally, physically, emotionally and morally to meet the daily challenges presented by society.
The Instructional Program is known as a leader in the education of the deaf and hard-of-hearing. The program serves students from nursery through grade twelve. Students receive instruction in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, computer technology, vocational education, independent living skills, physical education, and health. In each area, staff members have developed a curriculum that is specifically designed to meet the educational needs of hearing impaired students. An Individual Education Plan is provided for every child in the program. In addition to preparing students academically, the IEP is used to set goals and objectives for developing speech skills, and to make Occupational and Physical Therapy available to those children who need help in mastering basic motor skills.
