Letter to Tennessee Governor Sundquist
March 5, 2002 and The Governor's reply of April 11, 2002 State of Tennessee Dear Governor Sundquist: Some people claim that corporal punishment of students teaches “respect.” With regard to respect, I invite your response to three questions: 1. Is a teacher who injures children in the way the children pictured below have been injured deserving of respect? 2. Is an educational system that prescribes such treatment of schoolchildren deserving of respect? 3. Are legislators who sponsor or support legislation that authorizes the outcomes shown below deserving of respect? Thank you for your kind attention. Jordan Riak, Executive Director

MISSION
The University of Tennessee Center for Community-based Health Initiatives represents a partnership between two units of the University: College of Pharmacy and Extension Service . These two units share in the same mission: to improve the health and health care of Tennesseans.
NEED
Health care and maintenance of personal health are major concerns of Tennesseans. Research shows people often lack the health related self-care skills necessary to prevent illness and disease and to access the health care system effectively. Such knowledge and skills can reduce the risk of complications of untreated problems and the disabling and debilitating effects of disease, all of which place a financial burden on the individual and the Tennessee health care system.
GOAL
The goal of the Center is to create, deliver, and evaluate innovative health education programs. These programs are community-based and provide research-based education designed to result in self-responsibility for health.

Drafting is considered to be the graphic language of the industrial world. Drafters develop clear, complete and accurate working plans, maps and detailed drawings based on rough sketches and specifications furnished by engineers, architects, or designers.
Traditionally, drafters sat at drawing boards and used drafting instruments to prepare a drawing manually. Most drafters now use computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems to prepare drawings.
If you are seeking a career in drafting, these competency-based technical certificates will enable you to develop the skills that are essential for entry-level employment. Professionals from the various drafting disciplines worked closely with course designers and developers to ensure that you will have attained the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the field of drafting.
The drafting curriculum is certified by the American Design Drafting Association and maintains compliance with engineering and industry standards.
