1st High Energy Astrophysics Observatory (HEAO 1. GSFC. NASA)
The first of NASA's three High Energy Astronomy Observatories, HEAO 1 was launched aboard an Atlas Centaur rocket on 12 August 1977 and operated until 9 January 1979. During that time, it scanned the X-ray sky almost three times over 0.2 keV - 10 MeV, provided nearly constant monitoring of X-ray sources near the ecliptic poles, as well as more detailed studies of a number of objects through pointed observations. http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.goV/docs/heao1/heao1.html
A Broad-Band Imaging X-ray All-Sky Survey (ABRIXAS)
ABRIXAS is a small satellite mission which was planned to observe the X-ray sky in the energy band 0.5-10 keV. The mission failed shortly after launch in Spring 1999. http://www.aip.de/groups/xray/abrixas/index.html
AREA31 Radio Observatory
A31RO is a privately owned astronomical radio observatory operated by the Interstellar Electromagnetics Institute/L'institut Electromagnetiques Interstellaires under cooperative agreement with the AREA31 Research Facility.
It is located near Shelburne, Ontario, Canada, about 1-1/2 hrs drive NW of Toronto. The Project TARGET microwave SETI program (since 1985), previously conducted at the Hay River Radio Observatory and also the Algonquin Radio Observatory is the primary initiative.

127. Telescopes
telescopes. They were used a lot even after the discovery of the telescope, since early telescopes couldn t measure exactly where a star was.
http://www.crystalinks.com/telescopes.html
TELESCOPES
Man has always followed the heavens. Ancient creational Myths and Legends always connected with Gods and Goddesses linked to celestial bodies. It was only a matter of time before humanity could find a better way to peer into the heavens for a closer look at their Gods and Goddesses. To truly understand what the sky and its lights are all about, human beings eventually realized they couldn't just rely on their eyes. They had to develop tools to help explore what stretched far above them. The telescope was the key invention in the progress to modern astronomy, but it took many thousands of years before anyone succeeded in inventing one. This is somewhat surprising since water's ability to change and sometimes magnify objects beneath the surface must have been noticed as early as caveman times. Glass was discovered around 3500 BCE, and crude lenses were even found in Crete and Asia Minor, dating from 2000 BCE. A number of well-respected writers as early as classic times reported about refraction, reflection, and magnification. But for some reason no one put together all these observations and discoveries in the right way until the early 17th century. Instead, ancient peoples used many other kinds of tools and aids to help them observe and track the stars and planets. Ancient sites like Stonehenge in Great Britain and the Egyptian pyramids are some of the earliest evidence we have that our ancestors made pretty accurate observations of the sky. We know that because these sites are aligned in special ways. At Stonehenge, for example, one can see the sun rise through one arch at the summer solstice, which is the time when the sun is at its farthest point north in the sky.

Large aperture telescopes for the discriminating observer.
A large aperture telescope should be easy to move, easy to set up, and should perform flawlessly. There are many companies producing scopes these days. Many are fine instruments. We have chosen to produce a telescope that is superior in quality and construction. We have cut no corners. We use only the finest components to build our telescopes, making them as much a pleasure to look at as to use. We know that you want choices when it comes to your own observing gear. We will customize your scope to your specifications. Richard Navarette checks out a new 15" F5 at a recent star party in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Every scope is tested under the dark skies here at Plettstone. We will personally guarantee that your new scope performs to our high standards.

Collimation Tools "this is because bad collimation is the number one killer of telescopes world wide."
Walter Scott Houston
Sight Tube...........................................$34.50
The basic mechanical alignment tool for Newtonian telescopes. This tool is necessary for placing the diagonal mirror in the proper place, and aiming the diagonal mirror at the center of the primary. If you only buy one tool at a time - this is the one you need first.

Cheshire..............................................$43.00
Once your diagonal is in the proper place, you are ready for the Cheshire. This tool is probably one of the most used tools of the set. It is used for very close collimating the primary on a Newtonian, either in the daylight or in complete darkness, for those times when you don't set up till late. Simply shine your red flashlight into the opening. If you have a refractor, this is the tool to use.
Autocollimator................................... Included with Full Set of Tools
This is the final step for collimating your Newtonian. Don't try to use it without first going through the proper steps with the Sight Tube and Cheshire. It won't work! The collimation has to be close to begin with or this tool will frustrate you because it is so critical. This tool is also for collimating classical cassegrains. (Not for catadioptrics.) The autocollimator is not available separately, but only when purchased with the full set of Tectron tools. The cheshire and sight tube will still be sold separately.

The UK Astronomical Data Centre
Welcome to the home page of the UK Astronomy Data Centre (formerly RGO Astronomy Data Centre). The Data Centre is part of the Cambridge Astronomy Survey Unit in the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, and houses a good selection of data from the UK's ground based telescopes as well as a number of catalogues. The user interfaces for the catalogues presented here are all very similar, so once you've queried one catalogue then all of the rest should be pretty much the same. The interface owes much to software developed at the CADC (Canadian Astronomy Data Centre) and we gratefully acknowledge our debt to them in allowing us to adapt their software to our needs. We currently serve the following archives and catalogues.
VizieR service
The ADC operates a mirror of the VizieR service VizieR is a "catalogue of catalogues" or "data-set federation". It allows users to browse lists and descriptions of available catalogues and to submit a query, typically by object name or position, on many catalogues at once.
