Is teen pregnancy a problem?
Teen pregnancy rates have declined in recent years. This decline is thought to be attributed to more effective birth control practice and decreased sexual activity among teens. Still, teenage pregnancy rates remain high. Follow the link below to view the teenage pregnancy statictics in a number of countries. In the US approximately 1 million teenage girls become pregnant every year. In order to lower teenage birthrates, teens must be educated about sex and the consequences of pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is an important issue. There are health risks to the baby and children born to teenage mothers are more likely to suffer health, social, and emotional problems. There is an increased risk for complications such as premature labor during teen pregnancy and socioeconomic consequences as well. Teen Pregnancy: From the Government With Love by Bernard Chapin One of the funniest lines I’ve ever heard at the alternative school where I work came from one of our inner-city born and bred teachers. When asked if a female student in his class was pregnant he said “No, but the guys are working on it.” A humorous quip but poignantly true. Teen pregnancy at my low-income, inner-city school is not out of the ordinary. It’s part of the infrastructure of our building and always a part of staff conversation. The one thing that unites teenage mothers with teenage fathers is that neither one of them have any coherent plans for their future. The only thing they know for certain is that the government will take care of them. They know this to be true as the government took care of their mothers and their mother’s mothers. Thus the cycle of alchamizing youth into parasite will continue unabated forever. th birthday when they are no longer eligible for what they call “crazy checks.”

    Let’s Have More Teen Pregnancy
    It’s not a problem. By Frederica Mathewes-Green rue Love Waits. Wait Training. Worth Waiting For. The slogans of teen abstinence programs reveal a basic fact of human nature: teens, sex, and waiting aren't a natural combination. Over the last 50 years the wait has gotten longer. In 1950, the average first-time bride was just over 20; in 1998 she was five years older, and her husband was pushing 27. If that June groom had launched into puberty at 12, he'd been waiting more than half his life. If he had been waiting, that is. Sex is the sugar coating on the drive to reproduce, and that drive is nearly overwhelming. It's supposed to be; it's the survival engine of the human race. Fighting it means fighting a basic bodily instinct, akin to fighting thirst. Younger moms and dads are likely be more nimble at child-rearing as well, less apt to be exhausted by toddlers' perpetual motion, less creaky-in-the-joints when it's time to swing from the monkey bars. I suspect that younger parents will also be more patient with boys-will-be-boys rambunction, and less likely than weary 40-somethings to beg pediatricians for drugs to control supposed pathology. Humans are designed to reproduce in their teens, and they're potentially very good at it. That's why they want to so much.

Teenage Pregnancy. Highlights: An ERIC/CAPS Fact Sheet.
Teenage parenthood is by no means a new social phenomenon. Historically, women have tended to begin childbearing during their teens and early twenties. During the past two decades the U. S. teenage birthrate has actually declined (Polit and others, 1982). In the late 1950s, 90 out of 1000 women under 20 gave birth as compared with 52 out of 1000 in 1978. Several factors contribute to the current attention focused on teenage pregnancy and parenthood. 1. There is currently a large number of young women in the 13 to 19 age range, so that while the birthrates are declining, the absolute number of teenagers is increasing. 2. These statistics do not distinguish between intentional and unintentional pregnancies, or pregnancies occurring in or out of wedlock. From the 1978 figures, only one in six pregnancies concluded as births following marriage, and eight in ten premarital teenage pregnancies were unintended. 3. The declining birthrate is not consistent for all teenagers: among those 14 or younger, the birthrate is increasing.

Headline Pregnancy rates among adolescent females have fallen steadily in the past decade, from 116 per 1,000 female teens ages 15 to 19 in 1990 and in 1991 to 84 per 1,000 female teens in 2000. ( See Figure 1 Importance Teen pregnancy has negative consequences for both the mother and the child. The vast majority of teen pregnancies (78 percent) are unintended. Data from the mid-1990s indicate that 43 percent of pregnancies to teens aged 15-19 ended in unintended births and another 35 percent ended in abortions. These percentages are even higher for younger teens. Mothers who do have a teen birth are more disadvantaged, on average, than are other teens and have children who face negative health, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes. Trends In 2000, the teen pregnancy rate reached the lowest recorded rate since 1976. Among female teens ages 15 to 19, the rate declined from 116 per 1,000 in 1990 to 84 in 2000. Teens ages 15 to 17 experienced a decline of forty percent, from 80 in 1990 to 48 per 1,000 in 2000. The rates for teens 18 to 19 also declined between 1991 (167) and 2000 (136). ( See Figure 1 Note: Estimates for 2000 are not directly comparable to previous estimates due to slight variations in computing methods. Estimates for 2000 were computed using census population estimates from July 1, 2000, while previous years use April 1 data as their base. Pregnancies are calculated as the sum of births, fetal losses (miscarriages and stillbirths), and abortions. In 2000, the number of fetal losses was estimated as 20 percent of births plus 10 percent of abortions. For previous years, fetal losses were computed using estimates from the National Survey of Family Growth. For more details, see

Preterm Labor After Delivery Breastfeeding Weight Control Between Pregnancies Teen Pregnancy Adolescent pregnancies are higher risk than the pregnancies of healthy adult women. There are several reasons for this. First, teenage girls may not be completely through their own growth process. Adding pregnancy to a time of rapid personal growth will certainly increase nutritional demands. It will also challenge reproductive organs early in their development. As a result, pregnant teens are more likely to deliver their babies early (premature) or have a baby with low birth weight. Complications of pregnancy such as anemia, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and preeclampsia are also more likely to develop. Because of higher risks, it is critical that pregnant teenagers seek prenatal care as soon as they find out they are pregnant. Enrolling in prenatal care early in pregnancy can help ensure a healthy pregnancy outcome. Good obstetrical care will ensure that problems are detected and treated early, protecting both mother and child. It is very important that pregnant teenage girls keep all their prenatal medical appointments and that they are educated about pregnancy needs and good health practices.

@import url(http://www.homestead.com/~media/elements/Text/font_styles.css); What Exactly is
"Spiritual Birth Counseling" ?
In the eyes and hearts of most people, a newborn baby is a precious and magical gift. The creation of this tiny wonder is also an incredible miracle which comes complete with excitement, awe, and much curiosity.
Understanding the changes in a woman's body as her child grows inside her, as well as understanding the psychological, physical, and spiritual development of her newly forming little one, bring the relaxation and strength necessary to alleviate anxiety, fear, confusion, and pain felt often during the prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum times.
Spiritual Birth Counseling is knowledge, support, therapy, and emotional care for the woman wanting to be a mother, the mother-to-be, and the new mother. Pregnancy is a time of joy and magic. The development and birth of a baby creates a passageway into an entire new sense of being and a new stage of life for a woman. Becoming a mother envelopes a sense of creation, maturity, growth, love, and wonder, which should all be understood and celebrated. Spiritual Birth Counseling touches tenderly upon each of these aspects of pregnancy.
Magic
In many nature-based religions, going from Maiden to Mother is an important and highly symbolic stage, which dates back to a significant and celebrated event since medieval times. The "Mother" stage carries the responsibility of teaching and caring for a child, as well as providing and receiving love and happiness, as a powerful bond is created between mother and child.

The NEA Health Information Network is particularly concerned about these numbers because teen mothers are less likely to complete high school ( only one-third receive a high school diploma ) and only 1.5% have a college degree by age 30.4 Clearly, we all need to work to prevent teenage pregnancies.

C Introduction Over the course of a year, counsellors at Open Doors see around 2000 clients of varying ages. A large number of our clients fall into the 15-23 age bracket. This age group is usually involved in discovering who they are as individuals, studying, building careers, forming relationships and generally having fun. Indeed, they are in the process of laying down the foundation for their adult lives. One would suspect that a pregnancy would not be high on their list of priorities and, indeed, this is generally the case. However, all too often we find ourselves talking to young people who are in the position of having to make difficult choices about an unplanned pregnancy. This article looks at the deeper underlying issues that may contribute to an unplanned pregnancy, evidence of which we certainly see in our contact with the people we serve. We refer to this phenomenon as Pregnancy Proneness i.e. a predisposition to a pregnancy that is neither consciously desired or planned for.
