Tips for Teens: The Truth About Heroin
SlangSmack, Horse, Mud, Brown Sugar, Junk, Black Tar, Big H, Dope, Skag
Heroin affects your brain. Heroin enters the brain quickly. It slows down the way you think, slows down reaction time, and slows down memory. This affects the way you act and make decisions. Heroin affects your body. Heroin poses special problems for those who inject it because of the risks of HIV, hepatitis B and C, and other diseases that can occur from sharing needles. These health problems can be passed on to sexual partners and newborns. Heroin is super-addictive. Heroin is highly addictive because it enters the brain so rapidly. It particularly affects those regions of the brain responsible for producing physical dependence. Heroin is not what it may seem.

The program concentrates on four components designed to permanently prevent smoking and to encourage youth advocacy: I. Reinforcing smokefree air as the norm in our society, and teaching teens how to advocate for a tobacco-free society. II. Encouraging self esteem. Their sense of their own capability is also strengthened by giving their own, uniquely-designed, presentations to the younger students they teach, and experience the obvious admiration the younger students have for them. Teens involved in TAT experience success success in learning new information, creating effective presentations and giving them, and interacting with new peers who are also choosing a healthy lifestyle. III. Conveying a genuine understanding of addiction vs. free choice. IV. Analyzing and ridiculing tobacco ads directed at youth.

(Tampa, FL) - A new study on adolescent video game addiction from the National Institute on Media and the Family suggests that 14 percent of 8th and 9th graders who play video games are addicted to the games. The study also found that 82 percent of adolescent video game addicts are male. According to the study, non-addicted adolescents play video games an average of 4.5 hours per week while addicted gamers play the games an average 21.6 hours per week. Measuring for time spent playing video games and patterns of addicted behavior, the study surveyed 607 Midwestern students from urban, suburban, rural, public and private schools. Based on the results of the survey, it appears that behavior of video game addicts is similar to behavior of people addicted to other things, including gambling and drugs.
