Author's Note: I decided to create this page when a Primary School teacher (K-3) e-mailed me three days ago for help in finding stories that would get her young students interested in literature and myth. In the eleven months since Myth*ingLinks went online, I have received similar requests but, until now, never considered gathering the material I have onto one webpage. This page will grow slowly because my primary focus remains in collecting links for my own graduate students (average age: 47). But children, above all, need to be given access to stories that don't continue to transmit Western culture's often toxic agenda stories that, instead, show them creative pathways into realms of wonder, magic, and hope. Beginning this page is my small attempt to help in this task.

General Information for Teaching Overseas
Teaching is a regulated professional occupation everywhere in the world, and as such is governed by local laws and policies concerning who can practice, what their qualifications must be, and other requirements. You cannot simply take a U.S. teaching license, or education degree, and try to get a job in another country without first learning about, and then following, that country's rules and regulations regarding both foreign workers in general and teaching in particular. There are generally four types of employment opportunities for teachers and other educators overseas:
  • U.S. public schools located overseas and operated by the U.S. government for families of employees and contractors stationed abroad.

Overview Teaching is a professional occupation that is regulated in different ways at different levels (see Primary and Secondary Levels and Postsecondary Level ). Because it is regulated and is paid work, there are definite restrictions governing the eligibility of non-U.S. citizens to practice in the United States. Certain general principles, however, apply to teaching at any level and some information resources cross levels.

Home page Guidance on teaching the gifted and talented, What does gifted and talented mean? Managing provision. Matching teaching to learners needs.
    http://www.nc.uk.net/gt/general/

What does 'gifted and talented' mean?
There are many definitions of gifted and talented. This guidance builds on the work of Excellence in Cities (EiC), which identifies: 'gifted' learners as those who have abilities in one or more subjects in the statutory school curriculum other than art and design, music and PE; 'talented' learners as those who have abilities in art and design, music, PE, or performing arts such as dance and drama. This guidance uses the phrase 'gifted and talented' to describe all learners with gifts and talents. EiC targets gifted and talented work at the top 5 to 10 per cent of pupils in any school, regardless of the overall ability profile of pupils. Many schools and local education authorities outside EiC have adopted similar criteria, while others use alternative benchmarks. While the EiC definition relates to the national curriculum and to pupils of compulsory school age, it may be extended to include those who show marked abilities in any area of the school or college curriculum at any age. It is not unusual for older students to show significant ability and enthusiasm when they take up new areas of the curriculum and have a new context for study. The Excellence Challenge takes a similar approach to Excellence in Cities in respect of gifted and talented 16- to 19-year-olds, but targets the top 2 to 20 percent of students in an institution.

    A holistic approach
It is vital that a school or college's provision for the gifted and talented is coherent and consistent: across subjects and programme types; across year groups and phases; for each gifted and talented learner.. This coherence needs to be clear to staff, parents and pupils/students. At the whole-institution level: The various threads of provision for the gifted and talented (including teaching and learning, extracurricular enrichment, pastoral support and community links) should operate coherently and relate to each other. The components of teaching and learning, including classroom provision, study support, workplace learning and enrichment opportunities need to make sense as a coherent package, rather than being a disparate collection of initiatives. Study support must complement classroom provision effectively it should not simply be a bolt-on extra that bears no relationship to the curriculum that the gifted and talented follow. Acceleration, extension and enrichment should be planned coherently across the institution and within subject areas. At the subject level, secondary schools in particular should ensure that different departments are consistent in their provision for the gifted and talented. Some subjects lend themselves more easily to approaches such as acceleration, and some allowances may need to be made for local needs and circumstances. However, there is no reason in principle why a school's policy on, for example, the balance between acceleration, extension and enrichment, should not be followed by all subject departments.
