George Washington was the first in the line.
Next came Adams and he was just fine. Jefferson bought Lousiana for you and me and sent an expedition there in 1803.
Madison fled the capital with First Lady Dolly while the British burned the White House and said it was jolly. Monroe had a doctrine that kept Europe away, and we would force them out if they didn't obey.
John Quincy Adams was John Adam's Son, choosing men with the same name had begun. Andrew Jackson was tough as could be, And that's they called him "Old Hickory."

Harrison had a Log Cabin campaign. Tyler became president when Harrison died.
Polk was a dark horse who went for a ride.
"Old Rough and Ready" fought the Mexican War But Zachary Taylor didn't last four. Milliard Fillmore had a funny name.

Old Rough and Ready You may remember that in the popular movie Chariots of Fire Olympic contender Eric Liddell refused to run on Sunday because of his religious convictions. Something like that happened with a United States president, too. Zachary Taylor, an Episcopalian, refused to take the presidential oath of office on a Sunday. The 42 Presidents were born in 20 of the 50 states (or in colonies that later became states). This lesson uses maps to process and report information from a spatial perspective. Students will identify the states that have presidential birth sites and will differentiate the states with more presidential birth sites on a map. Inherent in this lesson is the ability to recognize all 50 of the United States on a map. Connections to the Curriculum: Geography, social studies, current events, history

U.S. Presidents and Freemasonry The purpose of this webpage is to present information about U.S. Presidents who had some involvement with Freemasonry, either as members or in some other way. Please feel free to contact me with information, suggestions, or corrections about the information on this site. You can contact me by clicking on my name: Paul M. Bessel There are 14 U.S. Presidents who are generally considered to have been Freemasons. The "rating" in the following chart is from various polls of historians' views of U.S. Presidents that were conducted at various times. The details about these polls are shown at the bottom of this webpage. These polls were not related, so their ratings may not correlate completely with each other. However, there seems to be a general consensus among all the polls. For example, Abraham Lincoln is always rated #1, the greatest of all U.S. Presidents, and Warren G. Harding is always rated as the worst of all the U.S. Presidents who served in that office. Name Rating
