24. Lao Tzu: Father Of Taoism
Lao Tzu Father of taoism. Thus taoism, in a peculiar and roundabout way, became a political philosophy. The formulation follows these lines
http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Philosophy/Taichi/lao.html
Lao Tzu: Father of Taoism
Lao Tzu meets Yin Xi, the Guardian of the Gate of Tibet. Although ascetics and hermits such as Shen Tao (who advocated that one 'abandon knowledge and discard self') first wrote of the 'Tao' it is with the sixth century B.C. philosopher Lao Tzu (or 'Old Sage' born Li Erh) that the philosophy of Taoism really began. Some scholars believe was a slightly older contemporary of Confucius Kung-Fu Tzu , born Chiu Chung-Ni ). Other scholars feel that the Tao Te Ching, is really a compilation of paradoxical poems written by several Taoists using the pen-name, Lao Tzu. There is also a close association between Lao Tzu and the legendary Yellow Emperor, Huang-ti According to legend Lao Tzu was keeper of the archives at the imperial court. When he was eighty years old he set out for the western border of China, toward what is now Tibet, saddened and disillusioned that men were unwilling to follow the path to natural goodness. At the border (Hank Pass), a guard, Yin Xi (Yin Hsi), asked Lao Tsu to record his teachings before he left. He then composed in 5,000 characters the Tao Te Ching (The Way and Its Power). Confucius.

taoism, or the Way. There are as many meanings as there are vantage points. 2 The same could be said of the diverse tradition we call taoism.

Taoism, or the Way
Article written by Judith A. Berling for the Asia Society's Focus on Asian Studies, Vol. II, No. 1, Asian Religions AskAsia Humans model themselves on earth,
Earth on heaven,
Heaven on the Way,
And the way on that which is naturally so.

Laozi (Lao Tzu)
Daodejing (Tao te ching), #25 A noted Chinese anthropologist has written that Chinese religion "mirrors the social landscape of its adherents. There are as many meanings as there are vantage points." The same could be said of the diverse tradition we call Taoism. Taoism was understood and practiced in many ways, each reflecting the historical, social, or personal situation of its adherents. While this diversity may confuse and perplex the outside observer, it accounts for the resilience of Taoism in China. Taoism was adaptable, evolving to fill spiritual gaps created by the vagaries of life. Taoism can also be called "the other way," for during its entire history, it has coexisted alongside the Confucian tradition, which served as the ethical and religious basis of the institutions and arrangements of the Chinese empire. Taoism, while not radically subversive, offered a range of alternatives to the Confucian way of life and point of view. These alternatives, however, were not mutually exclusive. For the vast majority of Chinese, there was no question of choosing between Confucianism and Taoism. Except for a few straightlaced Confucians and a few pious Taoists, the Chinese man or woman practiced both either at different phases of life or as different sides of personality and taste.

What is it we want? To fully experience our aliveness. To feel in our bodies a streaming, like the rush of the river over stones. To be awake alert and responsive in our limbs, and sensitive in our fingertips. To feel as if our inner and outer reality is congruent and that our efforts are rewarded by a sense of satisfaction. We aspire to have our private lives nestle within the valley of a public world, which we can affirm. We long to feel connected to each other. We want to be able to embrace and be embraced. We want to live the lives of our bodies to permit us to fully live our lives, Chinese medicine is a beginning." - Ballantine - A New Realm Media Production

DAO Quote of the Moment
The Tao is always nameless.
And even though a sapling might be small
No one can make it be his subject.
If rulers could embody this principle
The myriad things would follow on their own.
Heaven and Earth would be in perfect accord
And rain sweet dew.
People, unable to deal with It on its own terms
Make adjustments; And so you have the beginning of division into names. Since there are already plenty of names You should know where to stop. Knowing where to stop, you can avoid danger. The Tao's existence in the world Is like valley streams running into the rivers and seas. Dao De Jing - Chapter 32

Publicerar t¤nkv¤rda ord skrivna av en av taoismens grundare, Lao Tzu.
http://home.swipnet.se/~w-42275/tao.html
To whom it might concern..
"My Rose..?" ritad av mig själv (Pelle Stridh) Jag kommer på denna sida bl.a att publicera tänkvärda ord skrivna av en av Taoismens grundare, Lao Tzu. Han nedtecknade ett antal "teser", närmare bestämt 81 stycken i skriften "Tao Te Ching". Jag lägger ut en ny varje vecka så att ni, kära läsare, kan läsa, begrunda och tolka.

Welcome to Taoism from Dummies , the best first touch with Taoism. The man in the highly competitive world today is always under the stress from the daily life. We also always forget about the meanings and the aim of our life. The unnecessary thing that is not really important also abandons us. Philosophy helps us to realise on all these. Do we able to escape, that 's another story. In another word, the philosophy study give you a rough view of the destination of each way, but you are the one who decides where to go. Compare with other civilizations like Egypt, Greece, India, Babylon, Mesopotamia, Rome, etc, China is the much more long lasting. So I believe that the Chinese culture has it own strengths.

What's behind the sense of "I am"? Who's living, and who's facing death? Who or what am I, essentially? Will some part of me continue on after death? Is there an unchanging, eternal part of me? Am I a part of some unchanging, eternal essence? Throughout history occasional individuals have told of finding the answer to those questions, and their testimonies often have a surprising consistency. And as my friend and teacher Richard Rose wrote: "Beyond the mind is a golden find...." For individuals seeking to find the answer for themselves, those testimonies provide helpful clues for pursuing the search to a successful conclusion. For some searchers, working by themselves is the preferred method. Others intuit that finding a few fellow seekers to work with may expedite their progress. Still more fortunate may be those who find a living person who has made the journey and can provide assistance from the perspective of that realization. The Self-Discovery site is designed to offer all three modes of help. Site Diagram Philosophical Self-Inquiry home page and calendar . The Philosophical Self-Inquiry Group of Pittsburgh, PA is a group aimed at implementing maximum systems of self-discovery an approach which can be duplicated anywhere by finding a few people to work with.
