Sculpture Sculpture is one of the major arts of French Polynesia. Initially, pieces of art were produced on all 5 archipelagos. Nowadays, most sculptures you will find along your trip are produced in the Marquesas islands. Polynesia sculpture is characterised by some kind of mystical power that seems to emanates from the subjects chosen by the artist, often inspired by old original designs and patterns. La ferme des perles de culture
Tahiti - La Polynésie
Paul Gauguin

The volcano from which it rose progressively collapsed, giving way to a ring of motu (islets in Tahitian) that border the lagoon, in the center of which is the main island mass. read the following... WorldTravelGate.net Information about the culture of tahiti, FrenchPolynesia. tahiti - culture. tahiti, often called The Island
http://www.eurotravelling.net/france/french_polynesia/tahiti/tahiti_culture.htm
ADVERTISING INFORMATION Tahiti - Culture Tahiti , often called "The Island of Love" , is the largest of the 118 Islands and atolls that comprise French Polynesia. The 1,042 sq. km. (402 sq. miles) of Tahiti's surface area consists of mountain peaks reaching over 2, 000 meters ( 7,000 ft.) into a lei of wispy clouds; deep green valleys covered with rainforests and soft ferns, waterfalls cascading into cool sweet rivers and streams and flat coastal land, with luxurious tropical vegetation. Around Tahiti-Nui (big Tahiti) a 114 km. (71 miles) road winds between the mountains and the sea. And on the peninsula of Tahiti-lti (little Tahiti) the road continues down each coast for 18 km. (12 mile). An interior road leads past dairy farms and citrus groves to a panoramic view on the Plateau of Taravao-the isthmus that connects the two Islands. Papeete , the bustling capital of Tahiti and Her Islands, contains the territorial government offices, gendarmerie, hospitals and clinics, banks, telecommunications center, airline and travel agencies, boutiques and black pearl shops. International cargo freighters, copra schooners, luxury liners and sailing yachts share the harbour. A modem city, it hums with happy voices as the daily drama is staged. Tahiti , however, offers enough interesting excursions and sites to make it worth a short stay.

The Association Tahiti Himalayan exchanges and the company Pearls Polynesie francaise combines their efforts to achieve humanitarian actions in Himalayan countries.
For several years, the Association Tahiti Himalayan exchanges works through prevention programs in health and in medical cares in Nepal and in Tibetan refugees camps in the north of India. This association is in charge of 17 villages and of a health dispensary center in Nepal, as well as of an ambulance specially adapted to Changthang-Laddack areas with an itinerant crew managed by a Tibetan physician who treats refugees from Tibet.
The Association Tahiti Himalayan exchanges works in close collaboration with local official organisms such as the International Buddhist Society in Nepal and the College of Tibetan medecine in India.
Besides the health area, the members of Himalayan exchanges patronizes orphan children in Nepal and Tibet as well as Tibetan medecine students.
At the beginning with little means and a small crew, this association has currently become kwown in all these areas. Of course, they would need more means but the key of its success comes from the interest shown by its members in the culture, the buddhist philosophy and Asian art, what has given the name “Himalayan exchanges” chosen by its president.
Pearls Polynesie francaise fully associates itself to this move by paying back 5% of the sales realised in the on line jewelry from the web site www.pearls-tahiti.com/bijouterie.htlm

Each year during the month of July, the people of French Polynesia celebrate Bastille Day with a variety of cultural programs. The colorful and energetic Tahitian dance competition is by far the most exciting event of this Tahitian "Heiva." Dance companies from all over French Polynesia prepare year-round to compete for the best group overall position. Local people enjoy the dazzling display of colorful and energetic dance choreography. At least 35 Polynesian dance companies (halau) are expected to participate in the group competition. In addition over 250 solo dancers from the various dance companies will participate in the Ori Tahiti Solo dance competition. Tahitian crafters and local artisans will be present to show the latest in their unique offerings. A sampling of Tahitian and local dishes will also be available for purchase. This year's feature guests are from Tahiti . The award-winning, " Tamarii Papara " and it's Mayor, Bruno Sandras will highlight this spectacular weekend. Workshops in language, drumming, costume design, vivo (nose flute), himene tarava and dance will take place early in the week from July 1-2. All workshops will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel ballroom.
