124. Welcome To The Dormant Accounts Website Of The Swiss Bankers Association
Process to allow Nazi victims or their heirs to claim assets deposited in Swiss banks before and during World War II.
http://www.dormantaccounts.ch/
Welcome to the Dormant Accounts Website of the Swiss Bankers Association On February 5, 2001, a new claims process has been established to provide Nazi victims or their heirs with an opportunity to make claims to assets deposited in Swiss banks in the period before and during World War II. The claims process is triggered by the publication of a list of 21,000 names of account owners, who were probably victims of Nazi Persecution. The claims process is part of the settlement of the Holocaust Victim Assets class action litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Chief Judge Edward R. Korman presiding. This website contains all the information you will need to find out further details about the claims program, view the list of names of account owners, receive a claim form with instructions, and obtain assistance in filling out the claim form from volunteer organizations. Please note that this website does NOT contain information about the process established in 1997 to adjudicate claims to dormant accounts published by the Swiss Bankers Association in July and October 1997 (accounts opened in Swiss banks by non-Swiss nationals or residents that have been dormant since 9 May 1945). For further information about the process relating to the 1997 lists of dormant accounts please click here To view, download or print information on the Claims Resolution Process, please click on one of the following:

IMPORTANT NOTICE
This website was started in June 1997 and was updated for the last time in July 2001. It is archived here as a historical reference. Switzerland is in the center of an international dispute regarding the recovery and redistribution of assets which were stolen or have disappeared during and following World War II. This page
about is a one-stop independent resource monitoring the controversy. edited by Bruno Giussani Three years after the global settlement, the first payments to Holocaust victims may finally happen, NY judge Ed Korman decided. A first sum of 43 million dollars will be distributed in the very next days. The Swiss banks have long paid the 1.25 billion dollars settlement sum into a blocked account, but procedural issues in the US and disagreements between beneficiaries had so far blocked the distribution of the money.
Almost three years after the final settlement between the Jewish organizations and the Swiss banks, and after having been delayed by a series of legal quarrels in the US, payments to claimants in the Holocaust Assets dispute should finally start this fall. The four agencies that will manage and distribute the $1.25 billion paid by the Swiss banks have been presented today in New York and Tel Aviv. The Claim Resolution Tribunal will handle $800 million to compensate the Holocaust victims (or their heirs) that had Swiss bank accounts (21'000 such accounts have been identified). The rest of the money will be distributed by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the Claims Conference in New York, and the International Migration Organization in Geneva. These funds will benefit both Jewish and non-Jewish, such as forced laborer during WW2 or refugees who were denied entry into Switzerland. Over 560 000 people have submitted a claim, and claims can still be put forward at

Intro Switzerland's rail network is one of the world's most densely concentrated rail systems. Due to the extremely mountainous terrain, railway engineers opted for the more economical narrow gauge construction; the distance between the rails is less than the standard 1435 mm. Some of these railways (such as the BLM) are simply links between two villages, while others handle the traffic of an entire canton (RhB.) Some, such as the JB were designed as tourist carriers, while others are "international", crossing into other nations (MC.) Because of this large variety of design and purpose, detailed descriptions of many of them will be found on this website. To contact the authors please have a look at our imprint Railway

A diplomatic mission is the diplomatic post (more commonly known as an embassy) of the sending state to the receiving state. The head of a diplomatic mission can be an ambassador, a chargé d'affaires ad interim or a permanent chargé d'affaires. A diplomatic mission can only be established if diplomatic relations exist between the two states concerned. A mission of the Holy See to another state is called a nunciature.
    Permanent mission
A diplomatic post of a state to an intergovernmental organisation is referred to as a permanent mission.
    Consulate-general, Consulate
A consulate is the consular post of the sending state to the receiving state. Consular relations must exist between the two states before a consular post can be established. There exist four categories of consular post: consulate-general, consulate, vice-consulate or consular agency. In principle, the title of the head of a consular post corresponds to the category of the consular post in question (e.g. a consulate-general is headed by a consul-general, etc.).
