Did The Templars Form Switzerland?
An Interview With Alan Butler Conducted December 28th, 1999 by Bonnie Dinelle To answer the question, Did the Templars found Switzerland, brought forward in "The Warriors and the Bankers," written by Alan Butler and Stephen Dafoe, we called Alan Butler at his Seaside home in Saltburn, England. AHAMOTKT: Thank you for talking with us Alan. Since this is a long distance call, let me cut to the chase. You are the co-author of a book, which puts forth a new theory regarding where the Knights Templar went after their suppression. You claim that place was Switzerland. Did the Templars found Switzerland? Butler: Well of course if you really want to know the ins and outs of this conundrum you will have to read The Warriors and the Bankers, written by Stephen Dafoe and myself. The book is available from Templar Books of Canada or you could get it through Amazon.com. Like most subjects (when you really get down to looking at them closely) there is no short answer. What we can say is that, on a balance of probabilities it seems most likely that they did. AHAMOTKT: And why is that. What makes up the balance of probabilities?

Under Roman influence, the population reached a high level of civilization and enjoyed a flourishing commerce. Important cities, such as Geneva, Basel, and Zurich, were linked by military roads that also served as trade arteries between Rome and the northern tribes. After the decline of the Roman Empire, Switzerland was invaded by Germanic tribes from the north and west. Some tribes, such as the Alemanni in central and northeastern Switzerland, and the Burgundians, who ruled western Switzerland, settled there. In 800, the country became part of Charlemagne's empire.

Report details history of Switzerland's anti-Gypsy policies
By Peter Reydt 18 December 2000 Use this version to print A recent report shows that Gypsies were systematically refused entry into Switzerland during the Second World War, even though the authorities knew they faced extermination in Nazi Germany. The report Roma, Sinti and Yenish-Swiss Gypsy policies at the time of National Socialism The commission's earlier studies had focussed on the Swiss treatment of Jewish refugees. It shows that whilst Switzerland admitted 27,000 Jewish refugees during the period of Nazi rule in Germany, it had also excluded a similar number. Between 1942 and 1943 the borders were shut completely to Jewish refugees. Discrimination against Gypsies in Switzerland has a long history. Official policy was to try and prevent entry to all foreign, stateless and even Swiss-born Gypsies. Already in 1850 the federal government had a policy of forcefully settling Gypsies in their place of birth and deporting foreign Gypsies. The different Swiss cantons began to bar Gypsies entry in the last third of the nineteenth century. Finally in 1906 the Swiss authorities decided to ban Gypsies from entering Switzerland altogether and to exclude those already resident from travelling on public transport.

Pfadibewegung Schweiz PBS. The history of switzerland. The historyswitzerland is a small country in the middle of the Alps and Europe
    http://www.pbs.ch/eng/swisshist.html
The History of Switzerland The History Switzerland is a small country in the middle of the Alps and Europe, situated at the crossing of different cultures and important means of communication. The geographical situation, with its numerous isolated little valleys, has always been reflected in the inhabitants. The strong desires of independance in each community have enhanced the federal system that we are still using and experiencing today. Originally, the Helvetians, a celtic tribe, populated the country. Then various people settled in the territory of the country: the Germans to the north, the Burgundians to the west, the Lombards to the south and the Rhetians to the east. That is the reason why Switzerland today has four languages. Swiss history starts with the pact from 1291, with which the three valleys of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden swore to help and support each other. This pact was above all to protect them from the invasions of forceful Dukes interested in the Gotthard. In the course of the years other cities and valleys joined the pact. The country however always depended on a good relationship with its neighbours. A special emphasis was always placed on cultural and economical contacts. ProfitableTreaties involving Swiss mercenaries used to be concluded with the neighbouring dukedoms. The Swiss confederation was also drawn into widespread international conflicts such as the Thirty Years War and the French Revolution. Civilian wars did not spare the country either.
