Sports August 23, 2000 Olympic Swimmers Well-Suited The Bodysuit Debate Swimmers at the 2000 Summer Olympics looked more like skindivers than swimmers, thanks to the high-tech bodysuits that have become available. Why is this swimwear so controversial? Speedo is one of several companies that has developed high-tech material designed to make swimmers faster. Marine scientists designed Speedo's Fastskin fabric to replicate the way a shark's skin channels water away from its surface. Speedo claims that by reducing drag, the material can reduce a swimmer's time by as much as 3%. This claim has yet to be proven, but that hasn't stopped today's top athletes from donning the latest suits and hoping for the best. After all, swimming times are measured not only in minutes and seconds, but also in hundredths of seconds. In this competitive world, one-tenth of a second is significant.

    Canada's synchro swim team Olympic-bound
WebPosted Sun, 18 Apr 2004 15:52:21 EDT CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Quebec City's Fanny Letourneau and Courtenay Stewart of Unionville, Ont., won't be the lone Canadian synchronized swimmers in Athens this summer. Canada rebounded from a fifth-place performance in the team event on Saturday to finish first following Sunday's second round at the Olympic qualifying meet. The eight teams that missed the cut Saturday had another chance to earn the last four Olympic berths. Canada finished on top, and China, Italy and France scored high enough to join the Canadians in qualifying. Despite their performance, France was eliminated from Olympic competition because ninth-place Greece was guaranteed a spot as the host nation. Letourneau and Stewart qualified in the duet competition, finishing fifth in the first round of qualifying on Saturday.

I really don't like to watch sports much. Way back when I liked to watch some Karate. I loved watching Cynthia Rothrock do her stuff. But when it comes to the Olympics I like gymnastics and ice skating.
If I watch wrestleing it is the type you spoke of. I just refer to it as "college wrestling" so people will know that it is NOT what you see on tv.

A British Swimming squad combining experienced Olympians as well as athletes facing their first Games has been unveiled as part of the Team GB bound for this summer’s Athens Olympics.
The announcement by the British Olympic Association follows a five-day British Swimming Olympic Trials at Ponds Forge in Sheffield where 36 swimmers earned selection to Team GB.
Commenting on the athletes selected, British Swimming National Performance Director Bill Sweetenham said: “It is a team full of fighters. It’s a totally committed team that will fight to the death when we get to Athens.
“There’s now 16 weeks to go until the Olympic Games and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
“We’re are stronger in some events, such as the men’s breaststroke and women’s backstroke, than we are in others but we will be the best prepared and the most professional swim team in Athens.
“The team has set high standards for themselves but they have the ability to be able to achieve those.”

James Gibson is hoping to add Olympic gold to his World title Great Britain performance director Bill Sweetenham looked ahead to this year's Olympics with confidence after unveiling a 36-strong squad.
"It's a team full of fighters. They will fight to the death when we get to Athens," said Sweetenham, after the trials at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. Foster out of Athens Foster, who won a silver medal at last year's World Championships, was aiming to compete in his fifth Olympic Games.
