Origin
According to the legend, during the 6th century a man came wandering over the mountains from India to China. He has been remembered as Bodhidharma or Daruma (Japanese). This man first settled down in the Liang province where the local patron Wu Di studied Buddhism. Daruma who was teaching meditation and intuitive capability was though misunderstood by Wu Di, who's Buddhism was aimed for salvation of people to a life after this, and he was thrown out from his domains. Daruma continued his travel and finally settled down at Shaolin, which was a temple at the mountain Hao-shan in what today is known as the Hunan province in China. Here he became accepted and the Buddhism that now came to be spread from here became known as Chan or Zen in its Japanese translation. Daruma's main practice of Buddhism was sitting meditation (zazen), which his disciples practiced eagerly. The disciples' long meditation sessions made their physics weaker and therefore Daruma decided to teach the fighting techniques that he learnt in India. Through this the disciples' physics was improved and they could then more easily manage the long sessions of meditation. After some time it turned out that the fighting techniques was as good practice as the meditation and the fighting techniques soon became the main practice. It is this evaluation that has made the Shaolin temple famous all over the world.

Development in Sweden
The first Shorinjikempo branch was registered by Hombu on the third of June in 1970, Shibu-cho was Hagiwara-sensei. Kanemi Hagiwara studied at Stockholm University and started, according to verbal information, teach Shorinjikempo already in 1969, but it was first in 1970 as the branch officially was registered by Hombu. After Hagiwara-sensei took, already in 1970, Yokoichi-sensei over. 1972 Shuichi Kawai became Shibu-cho in Stockholm Shibu. Kawai-sensei came from Rakuto-Doin in Kyoto. Then followed a number of Japanese instructors with connection to Rakuto-Doin.
Members of Stockholm Shorinjikempo in the 70s, on the picture you can see, among others, Matsushita-sensei and Roy Colegate. 1978 the instructors name was Yoshiyuki Horikawa and the same year Shorinjikempo Bromma Shibu was established under the leadership of Yuji Hirase. The responsibility as shibu-cho in Bromma was later, in June of 1980, over by Roy Colegate. 1981 Shorinjikempo was started in Visby, and after some different instructors had Leif Larsson as shibu-cho for several years.

yesterday and today
Sweden has been a monarchy for over a thousand years. For all this time, craftsmen, merchants and others have been delivering goods and services to the monarch and the Royal Family. The first suppliers to the Royal Family were the artisans and merchants who plied their trades in the quarters around the Royal Palace in Stockholm and the other Swedish royal residences. When the Royal Family then gradually started to order goods from other parts of the country and from abroad, the system of royal warrants also began to spread.

"Göteborgs kex AB". Photo: Kent Hallgren, Kungälv. In the 17 th century, and probably earlier still, the title "merchant to the king" was used. By the end of the century this had given way to the practice of writing "His Royal Majesty's" and then the trade or profession. This gave rise to titles such as His Royal Majesty's Baker and His Royal Majesty's Tailor. The word Majesty was later replaced by "Royal Court", and craftsmen and merchants started to style themselves Baker to the Royal Court, Tailor to the Royal Court, Chimney Sweep to the Royal Court.

Main Outlines of Finnish History
The Swedish reign
Until the middle of the 12th century, the geographical area that is now Finland was a political vacuum, and interesting to both its western neighbour Sweden and the Catholic Church there, and its eastern neighbour Novgorod ( Russia) and its Greek Orthodox Church. Sweden came out on top, as the peace treaty of 1323 between Sweden and Novgorod assigned only eastern Finland to Novgorod. The western and southern parts of Finland were tied to Sweden and the Western European cultural sphere, while eastern Finland, i.e. Karelia, became part of the Russo-Byzantine world. As a consequence of Swedish domination, the Swedish legal and social systems took root in Finland. Feudalism was not part of this system and the Finnish peasants were never serfs; they always retained their personal freedom. Finland's most important centre was the town of

History
While a number of Jews lived in Sweden, practicing their rituals in secret, a Jewish community was not officially established until the 1770's. Samson Efraim and his son visited Goteborg and Stockholm on business in 1702. More Jewish businessman came to Sweden because of the demands of the East Indian Company and, in 1733, Jews were allowed to visit auctions in Goteborg and a small Jewish community of eight individuals lived in Stockholm until 1734. Aron Isak Aron Isak, a seal engraver from Germany, was the first Jew granted permission to live as a Jew in Sweden. He was first offered citizenship if he accepted Christianity; his response, "I would not change my religion for all the gold in the world" impressed the Lord Mayor of Stockholm, who advised Isak to make a legal protest to King Gustav III. The King subsequently granted him citizenship as the first Swedish Jew. He was allowed to bring some Jewish families, so there would be at least a 10 Jewish men (the number needed to hold prayer services). In 1775, the island of Marstrand, off the coast of the Goteborg, all foreigners were allowed to live on the island ,including Jews. Five years later, the first Jewish family settled in Goteborg. In 1782, legislation was adopted allowing Jews to settle in Sweden without converting to Christianity.
