During the Cold War of the sixties, the only thing stopping American or Russian psychopaths from taking over the entire world was the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction [MAD], where a multiple ICBM launch by America on Russia or vice versa, would automatically lead to a “doomsday” response by the nation under attack. Mutual destruction of both America and Russia was thereby guaranteed, resulting in nearly thirty years of unprecedented peace and quiet, caused solely by mutual nuclear fear.
About one month ago, Russia discreetly invoked MAD again, but this time in the Middle East in direct response to hysterical Israeli threats to nuke Iran with submarine-launched American Harpoon missiles. Quietly and with the minimum of fuss, Russia deployed its most advanced tactical nuclear missiles and crews to both Syria and Iran, thereby sending an unmistakable diplomatic signal that if Israel attacked Tehran or Damascus with nuclear weapons, Russia would in return instantly and anonymously vaporize the Jewish State.

A new experimental lotion may help reverse sun damage. (AP Graphics) Anti-Cancer Lotion? Experimental Lotion Repairs Sun Damage, May Prevent Skin Cancer
By John McKenzie
May 23
Not only are these painful, they can also be dangerous. Sunburns often turn into skin cancers later in life, and the numbers are growing. Researchers say now one in five Americans will eventually develop skin cancer. Sunscreen can prevent it, but most Americans don't use it regularly. So researchers appear to have another solution. They've developed a kind of "morning after" lotion, to be used after a sunburn. It's designed to repair the sun's damage and reduce the risk of cancer. The lotion contains a natural protein called T4 endonuclease V. "The repair protein was well known among scientists," said Daniel Yarosh, president of AGI Dermatics of Freeport, N.Y., which is the company that invented the lotion. "In fact, it had been demonstrated in the laboratory dish to increase the repairs of human cells."

Sunburn and your sunburn history
What is a sunburn?
A sunburn is your skin’s response to overexposure to UV radiation. The skin turns red, becomes hot, and painful. A severe sunburn may even result in swelling and/or blistering. The length of time that will cause such reactions varies from person to person. Dark skin helps protect your skin from such a reaction through a larger amount of melanin which absorbs damaging solar radiation. Fair skin contains a smaller amount of melanin and therefore burns more easily and is more susceptible to damage. A tan in a light skined person is a sign of sun damage and the skin trying to prevent further damage.
Why do you peel after a sunburn?
Peeling after sunburn is your body’s way of getting rid of damaged cells. This is necessary because cells damaged by the sun are at risk of "losing control" and becoming cancer. Due to this danger, all damaged cell are instructed to commit suicide by repair mechanisms within these cells. This mass suicide of cells results in whole layers of damaged skin peeling off, to be replaced by other cells underneath those layers.
What is the big deal if the damaged cells are shed anyhow?

Sunburn and Sun Protection
Sunburn is an inflammation of the skin that follows over exposure to ultraviolet (UV light) from the sun, sun lamps, or occupational light sources. Signs and symptoms:
  • Red swollen, painful and sometimes blistered skin.
  • Fever.
  • Nausea, vomiting and delirium with severe burns.
  • Tanning or peeling of skin after recovery.
There is increased risk if you are fair skinned; have red or blonde hair; are exposed to industrial light sources (welding arcs); or are on a medication which increases sensitivity of the skin to UV light. These medications are sulfa antibiotics, Tetracyclines, Amoxicillin, and oral contraceptives. The sunburn can result in skin changes that lead to premature wrinkling and loss of skin elasticity, as well as more serious outcomes such as keratosis, premalignant skin lesions, skin cancer, and malignant melanoma. Prevention of sunburn
  • Avoid exposure to sun between noon and 3:00 pm.

Q. Can the sun coming through my car windows cause sunburn or otherwise damage my skin? A. The rays of the sun that can penetrate your car windows are not those that cause sunburn, although the heat generated by these rays can temporally redden or flush the skin, according to a study published in Dermatology. A portion of sunlight consists of invisible ultraviolet radiation that is divided, by wavelength, into UVC, UVB and UVA rays. Each of these wavelengths can cause skin cancer and skin damage sunburn ) pass through glass. Only UVA rays penetrate glass and these rays are particularly damaging. They can be 1,000 more intense than UVB rays, invading deeply into the underlying tissue. Besides leading to cancer, UVA rays are the primary cause of photo skin aging wrinkles, dryness, and age spots. In addition, children are especially vulnerable to the UVA rays streaming through auto windows. They frequently sit in the back of the car, where the intensity of these rays is highest. And they already spend more time in the sun than adults receiving about 50% to 80% of their lifetime ultraviolet exposure by age 18. Infants are even more at risk, because their melanin (the skin pigment that provides a small amount of sun protection) is not fully developed. In addition, people with certain medical conditions, such as lupus erythematosus, are particularly sensitive to UVA rays.

Sunbeds Make sure you never burn The two types of UV rays that can damage our skin are UVA and UVB. UVA penetrates deeply into our skin and causes it to age, wrinkle and sag. It can make you look ten years older! Scientists now believe UVA rays can also cause skin cancer. As a general rule:
UVA = Ageing
UVB = Burning Exposure to UVB is more dangerous and is likely to be the major cause of all types of skin cancer. UVB has most effect on the cells just below the surface of the skin. In as little as 15 minutes, UVB rays can make the skin red, inflamed and painful. This is sunburn. Sunburn can double your risk of skin cancer Experts believe that having sunburn during childhood can significantly increase your risk of malignant melanoma Some also say that your chances of developing this type of skin cancer are doubled by just one blistering sunburn before the age of 20. It's easy to burn when you least expect it Many cases of sunburn happen when people are not deliberately 'sunbathing'.

Sunburn
What is a sunburn?
A sunburn is caused by overexposure of the skin to the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun or a sunlamp. Most people have been sunburned many times. Vacations can quickly turn into painful experiences when the power of the sun is overlooked. Unfortunately, the symptoms of sunburn do not begin until 2 to 4 hours after the sun's damage has been done. The peak reaction of redness, pain, and swelling is not seen for 24 hours. Minor sunburn is a first-degree burn which turns the skin pink or red. Prolonged sun exposure can cause blistering and a second-degree burn. Sunburn never causes a third-degree burn or scarring. Repeated sun exposure and suntans cause premature aging of the skin (wrinkling, sagging, and brown sunspots). Repeated sunburns increase the risk of skin cancer in the damaged area. Each blistering sunburn doubles the risk of developing malignant melanoma, which is the most serious type of skin cancer.

Sun Burn is caused by the burning of the skin from over exposure to the sun. Sunburns may cause the skin to get red, and may boil or flake, and have a painfull burning sensation. Proper sun protection is required to keep skin safe from overexposure and skin damage. Sun Safety Tips
  • Apply sun screen carefully and generously. Re-apply after swimming Re-applying sun screen after swimming does not extend the protection time of your skin, however, it is necessary to apply sun screen after swimming. The sun light is strongest between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., so avoid these times. Apply sun protection even when you are in the shade. 40% UV radiation will still be getting through. Do not stay in the sun too long on the first sunny days. Accustom your skin to the skin gradually. In the beginning of summer, use high sun protection factors designed for your skin type. Snow and water intensify sun radiation, apply adequate higher protection. Your holiday destination is near the equator? Note that you do need higher sun protection because of more intense UV radiation. Your natural protection will be lower. This applies as well for mountaineering: the higher you climb and hike, the stronger sun protection you need.
