    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A sunburn is a radiation burn to the skin produced usually by overexposure to the ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun . A similar burn can be produced by overexposure to other sources of UV , such as tanning lamps and welding arcs. The effects of a sunburn
Minor sunburns typically cause nothing more harmful than a slight redness and perhaps tenderness to the affected area, though skin damage that is invisible to the naked eye remains even after the burn has healed. Furthermore, this damage is cumulative, so it is best to avoid getting even a minor sunburn. In more serious cases blistering can occur. Extreme sunburns can be quite debilitating as well as producing a lifelong increase in one's susceptibility to skin cancer , in particular melanoma edit

Skin cancer has reached epidemic proportions in Australia. Currently one in two Australians will develop the disease at some stage during their lives. There are three reasons why our levels of skin cancer are so high; our mainly fair-skinned population, Australia's harsh climate and our love for the great outdoors. Sunburn is not the only cause of skin cancer. Tanning or just too much sun, year after year, can also lead to people developing the disease. Skin cancer is very easy to prevent and can be treated successfully in 95% of cases if detected early. Sunburn
Almost all Australians will have experienced a painful dose of sunburn at some stage in their lives. In fact an average of 5.6 million Australians get sunburnt every summer.
Sunburn is your skin's reaction to ultraviolet radiation or 'UV'. Step outside without any form of protection, and UV (both UVA and UVB) will immediately start to penetrate deep into the layers of your skin. UVA penetrates deeper into the skin, affecting the living skin cells that lie under your skin's surface. It is these rays that cause longer-term damage like wrinkles, blotchiness, sagging and discoloration while also laying the ground work for future cases of skin cancer. Damaged skin cells will self-destruct and peel off in tatty sheets. Although peeling is unsightly, it is actually your body's way of getting rid of damaged skin cells that could potentially develop into cancers. All types of sunburn, whether serious or mild, can cause permanent and irreversible skin damage. Further sunburn only increases your risk of developing skin cancer.

Source: American Lung Association (CNN) Sunny days and warmer temperatures herald the coming summer, but they also can mean ozone alerts, hazy skies and breathing troubles. Nearly half of the American public is exposed to unhealthy amounts of smog, according to a new report from the American Lung Association that ranked the smoggiest U.S. cities. Dr. Norman H. Edelman, a consultant with the association, said that smog can inflame and damage the lining of the lungs, leading to swelling and restricted airways. "It's like a sunburn inside your lungs," he said. This inflammation can lead to shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing and chest pain, according to Edelman. It also can aggravate asthma and bring on attacks. People at most risk are those with asthma and other respiratory problems such as emphysema and bronchitis. Children and the elderly are also especially vulnerable.

How Sunburns and Sun Tans Work
by Marshall Brain Table of Contents Introduction to How Sunburns and Sun Tans Work How Skin Works How Tanning Works How Sunburn works How Sunscreens Work Lots More Information Shop or Compare Prices There is something mysterious about the sun and skin. Why is it that if you go out on a bright summer day and spend an hour in the sun, you get a sunburn? You get a sunburn, that is, unless you happen to have taken the time to get a nice gradual tan. With a nice tan you can go out in the sun and nothing happens. Of course, that doesn't apply if you have "fair skin". The fair skinned among us never get a tan, so they always get sunburned. Unless of course they are wearing a sunscreen... Does this make sense? What the heck is a sunscreen? And what is a tan? What is the difference between a tan and a burn? Why can you spread a little blob of lotion on yourself and be protected, but if you forget you are miserable?

Sunburns are burns caused by overexposure the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun or from sunlamps.
    - Repeated sun exposure and sunburns cause premature aging of the skin and increase the risk of skin cancer in the damaged areas.
    - Each blistering sunburn doubles the risk of developing skin cancer later in life. Symptoms of a sunburn
Minor sunburn is a first-degree burn that turns the skin pink or red and is painful and warm.
    - Second-degree burns can be caused by prolonged sun exposure and are characterized by blistering of the skin. Prevention of sunburns
    - Sunscreens should be applied prior to prolonged exposure to the sun and reapplied according to the product directions. Sunscreens should be SPF 15 or greater and applied 30 minutes prior to exposure.
    - Hats, protective clothing (T-shirts) and sunglasses with 99% to 100% UV protection should be worn.

Why is it important to protect children from the sun?
    • Too much sun is particularly harmful to very young children, who should be kept out of direct sunlight.
Protecting children from the sun not only prevents painful sunburn, it also significantly reduces the risk of developing skin cancer later in life.
50 per cent of total lifetime sunlight exposure occurs in childhood.
Breezes or water can cool the skin of children playing in the sun so that excessive exposure to sunlight is not noticed.

    http://www.webterrace.com/home/qt.htm
Q - T "I DO NOT SNORE", says the snorer to their significant other, then the significant other tape records you snoring one night and plays the incriminating evidence against you. At first you think it's some wild animal that escaped from the local zoo, but soon you come to the realization, after saying a million times, "That's not me, is it?" well, you come to the realization that you snore. So here are some cures:
  • Losing some weight reduces snoring. So get on that diet!
  • Alcohol is another no no, because it loosens the muscles and makes snoring worst.
  • Sleep on your side, it makes the snoring a little lower.
  • Have your doctor order you a cervical collar, it may reduce the snoring sound.
  • Apnea, if you have snoring and you stop breathing for a bit, you may have this serious condition called, Apnea. So visit your doctor!
    • Sore Throat
Here are a few tips to get rid of the common sore throat:
  • Eat garlic, yes, if you've read any of the other cures on this website you'll find that garlic is the leading treatment to many problems. It is because Garlic contains a antiviral and antibacterial agent. So eat your garlic, it's good for you. You can also get garlic pills, but I prefer the fresh garlic.
