Camp High Rocks for Boys
Position Announcements Employment Information Request form Camp High Rocks sits at an elevation of 3000 feet in the midst of 1100 acres of camp-owned mountain woodland, with an 11 acre lake, and miles of hiking and biking trails. Founded in 1958, High Rocks remains dedicated to providing a caring, challenging, and noncompetitive outdoor experience for boys. Campers come from all over the southeastern United States; many return year after year for the wide range of activities offered and for the supportive environment they find here. The strength of High Rocks lies in its staff: in each counselor's unique talents and personality, and in an expression of these through the combined effort of the staff working together. We are looking for a team of caring people who will share thoughts with each other, try new approaches, support one another, and who are willing to be creative, energetic, responsible, and patient as they lead by example. Each counselor shares in various responsibilities: being aware of camper safety, organizing activities in camp and on trips out of camp, teaching specific skills, and supporting the campers' growth. Male counselors live in a cabin with 5 or 6 boys, ages 8- 16. We act not only as teachers, but as friends, role models, and at times "parents." There is a lot of hard work involved, but the joy felt and the personal encouragement received from helping a child grow and mature is unmatched. It is a great experience to become a part of the High Rocks family.

About Haystack 2004 Summer Session 2004 Evening Programs Short Workshops ... Contact Haystack
Haystack Mission and Background
Haystack was founded in 1950 as a research and studio program in the arts. Its founding mission was to teach fine craftsmanship, develop latent or inherent creative ability, and carry on research and development in connection with the crafts. Over the years this has been refined to include the investigation of craft in an aesthetic climate that honors tradition while acknowledging the rich potential of contemporary visual art. People come to Haystack to develop skills and nurture the creative spirit. They come to ask questions, reassess their work and push into the unknown. The combination of a stunning natural setting, a unique campus designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, and the focused energy of the school community create an environment that supports a serious exploration of art, ideas and imagination. When you take your next summer drive, be sure to tote along a carfriendly craft. Sewing, beading, and paper crafts help pass the time when traveling.

Summertime Crafts
With oodles of free time on your hands (hopefully), you can make this a summer to remember forever. Whether you plan to take a trip to the beach or spend your warm-weather days in the backyard, here are some wonderful ideas to spark your creativity for summer crafting. So gather the family together and get ready to make memories. Purchase several inexpensive terra-cotta flowerpots to decorate for summer plants and flowers. Use paints to personalize the pots or glue on trims, such as ribbons, buttons, charms, or wood cutouts. When you take your next summer drive, be sure to tote along a car-friendly craft. Sewing, beading, and paper crafts help pass the time when traveling. Store your supplies for the car in a small plastic box with a lid. Plan a picnic in the park and be sure to pack watercolor paints, or crayons for the trip. Have each family member draw something beautiful he or she sees. Take time to organize your craft supplies. Purchase a few plastic boxes to sort your items, then make labels for each box so you can gather items for a project without sifting through all your supplies. Let each member of the family buy a new pair of sunglasses. Make cases for each pair from bright felt rectangles stitched together on three sides with embroidery floss. For extra sparkle, the kids can decorate their shades with gems glued onto the frames with jewel glue.
