Kids Summer Crafts and Activities
Free crafts and creative kids activities for the summer. Summertime. The kids are out of school and they have the long lazy days of July and August ahead. They could spend their days in front of the TV or they could be using their imaginations to create projects that are a reflection of their own unique talents. Does it matter what kids do on their summer vacation? After all, they are in school 10 months of the year and most do take some art classes. Don’t they get enough art lessons in school? Creative and artistic are not the same thing. Creativity is an approach to life. Creative thinkers know that problems have many different solutions. When they encounter an obstacle, they find a way around rather than giving up. They have to be willing to take risks as they learn new skills. These are important life skills that need to be encouraged in children. Crafts and creative projects give children the opportunity to learn and practice these skills. Even if they follow a project guide exactly, they will still to make decisions about shades of colors and where to place items. Once they are familiar with the project, most children will want to make it again. That is when they get really creative. First the colors change, then the shapes, and suddenly it is a new project from their own imagination.

for home
When our children were little, garage sales were great for finding toys and clothes for our family. On one occasion I found an old plaque with the following poem. Handwritten in a frame, it would make a lovely thank you
gift for those summer visits to friends and relatives. A KITCHEN PRAYER God bless my little kitchen,
As we partake of earthly good
I love its every nook,
The table before us spread,
And God bless me as I do my work,
We'll not forget to thank Thee, Lord.
Wash pots and pans and cook. Who gives us daily bread. And may the meals that I prepare So bless my little kitchen, Lord, Be successful from above; And those who enter in. With Thy blessing and Thy grace May they find naught but joy and peace But most of all Thy love. And happiness therein.

    Summer Crafts Festival
Portsmouth, NH - Strawbery Banke Museum will present a Summer Crafts Festival on the Grounds on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4th, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Crafts Festival Co-Chairs Dale Mixter and Tinka Pritchett announced, "We recognize the rich history of the crafts tradition of Portsmouth and in particular, the contributions of the artisans that lived here in the Puddle Dock neighborhood. A summer crafts festival on the grounds is an opportunity for us to connect the history of crafts with three centuries of Strawbery Banke Museum's history and bring outdoor activities to Puddle Dock.
Rain or shine, the festival will host juried exhibitors, as well as crafts demonstrations, children's activities and musical entertainment. A variety of culinary delights will be available. The mercantile elements of various houses on the grounds will be the focus of the self-guided tours throughout the weekend.
Interested artisans can apply for jurying by calling Barb Amergian at (603) 422-7503. The application deadline is March 1st. Business sponsorships are also available.
