positively of sufism:
"We find certain scholars denying the validity of mysticism. This is

Interestingly Sufism has been a major influence on many Iranian philosophers
whether it was the liberation theology of Dr. `Ali Shariati or the didactics of
Mulla Sadra (Sadr al-Din Shirazi), considered by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah
Khamene'i as the greatest Iranian philosopher. Sufism has clearly been an
acceptable form of Islamic faith and practice and clearly the legal decision to
exlude sufism from society is one based on political ideology and not on Islamic legal thought. There is no cultural imperative in Islam to justify the persecution of sufism. Part II: Dying for Love The Status of Human Rights for Sufis in Iran Imagine you are a professor of theology. You are walking down a public street suddenly the police stop you, shave your head and take your academic robes. Within a year you will be arrested your belongings confiscated and forbidden to accept new students and teach class. Your meeting halls demolished and libraries destroyed.

Sufism is the way towards the knowledge of our Self and our relation with our Lord, Allah. Sufism comprises the inner knowledge that is presented to us in the holy Qur'an. Sufi is the term attributed to a person practicing Sufism. To realize Allah one should purify his body, heart and soul. The Shari'ath (rules) stresses the purification of our body. Sufism as practiced and preached by Sufis stresses on the purification of our nafs, heart and soul. In this site you can find a small introduction to Sufism, a seekers first step towards his goal and articles on ihsan, the art of the sufis, kalima thayyiba and shirk. Here is a selection of some Islamic Sufi turuq on the World Wide Web. Tasawwuf (Sufism) is the Islamic science of "Ikhlas," or sincerity. Sufis emphasize personal spiritual experience while still holding strongly to the Shari`ah. Below, you can find web pages to the following Sufi tariqas, along with some short descriptions of their history and the activities they are involved in today.
Check out their web pages for more detailed information!
The Ba'Alawi tariqa The silsila (spiritual lineage) of the Ba'Alawi tariqa comes through southern Arabia and the tribe of Bani `Alawi. This branch of the Ba'Alawi tariqa is centered in South Africa, based at the al-Zawiya masjid in Cape Town, and is under the guidance of Shaykhs Seraj and Ahmad Hendricks. On this page, you can find various writings about the Ba'Alawi tariqa, including some of its history, as well as excellent articles on tasawwuf and Islam. is a film made on the metamorphic career of the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the famous sufi qawwali singer from Pakistan. The film departs from the popular version of Nusrat and goes back to his early roots in pure sufi music before and after he exploded on the international scene. Nusrat's metamorphosis from a genuine popular artiste to a mass produced exotica of the east, left behind many disillusioned listeners and devotees in its wake. Perhaps for the first time this film will give voice to the other side of the song. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan albums are available at Amazon.com

This page is the index to my hyper-media report on the traditional classical music of Persia (Iran). Of the many ancient societies that have shaped the history of human civilization, Persia has been one of the few which has persistently maintained its identity, and individuality through the ages; this is reflected in its classical music. The purpose of this site is to allow the casual observer an opportunity to explore the musical tradition of this ancient civilization. You will need a WAV player to hear the sound clips in this report. Click here if you need to download a player. Below is an outline of the ideas presented in this report. The following characteristics are shared between Iranian and other Central Asian music:
    • The music is mainly monophonic, with each instrument in an ensemble following one melodic scheme.

Most sufism embraces the Quran and most of Shi'a and Sunni Islam's beliefs. Sufis believe that their teachings are the essence of every religion, and indeed of the evolution of humanity as a whole. The central concept in Sufism is " love Dervishes the name given to initiates of sufi orders believe that love is a projection of the essence of God to the universe . God desires to recognize beauty , and as if one looks at a mirror to see oneself, God "looks" at itself within the dynamics of nature. Since everything is a reflection of God, the school of Sufism practices to see the beauty inside the apparent ugly, and to open arms even to the most evil one. This infinite tolerance is expressed in the most beautiful way, perhaps, by the famous Sufi philosopher and poet Mevlana (also known as Rumi "Come, come, whoever you are. Worshiper, Wanderer, Lover of Leaving; ours is not a caravan of despair. Though you have broken your vows a thousand times...Come, come again, Come."

    As Salaamu Alaykum
Peace upon you and welcome to the online home of the Qadiri Rifai Sufi Order
We are a traditional, Islamic order whose origins started with two great Saints of early Sufism: Abdul Qadir al Geylani and Ahmed ar Rifai. Our Tradition is one of inclusiveness and of welcoming. As Sufi poet Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi (circa 1200 ACE) says; Come, Come whoever you are, wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. Our's is not a caravan of despair. Come even if you have broken your vows a thousand times, Come, come yet again. In this site we present our understanding on the issues and knowledge inherent to a spiritual path from a Sufi perspective. We have divided this information into four sections. In the section titled Qadiri Rifai Sufi Order you will find information on our purpose, our history and our teachers. The Path of Sufism contains information that is common to most Sufi orders in the world. Guidance to the Path is an introduction to the basic practices we give to Qadiri Rifai students who wish to walk the Sufi path.
